Notes

Holly: Open/Closed/All Fees/Fines

On the new design there is no “error” option.  Do we still need it?  Yes!  It will go back in and we will discuss about what actually happens with all of these options at a future meeting.

Cate: Locations (and how collections fit in)

Special guests Jakub and Oliver to help us through this discussion.  Slide deck location can be found in grid above.

Location structure is hierarchical: Institution, Campus, Library and the parking area.  (Parking would no display to patrons).  Each institution can create as many parking lines as they want.  This is to give us flexibility.  How will this work in loan rules?  What are collections?  Sometimes collections is an intellectual relationship and not all located in the same place.  Other times a collection is a location.

Rule of specificity decides how a loan rule works if there is a question. 1. Priority of criteria in a rule; 2. Specificity of a rule; 3. Line # of a rule.

Spirited discussion of how this would actually work.  In the end we agree that this is a difficult concept to comprehend in the abstract and would like to be able to test it out with real examples.

Example: Shelf = new books.  Create a loan rule for this and it would apply to all new books regardless of location unless a more specific rule exists.  If a specific loan rule exists that has more than 1 property, it because the loan rule because it is more specific.

Example/question:  Offsite storage many contain material from several libraries and even more than one institution.  Music books could be both on campus and at the offsite storage unit.  Librarian may wish to review entire collection.  Ow does this work?

Will this work with NCIP?  We need the NCIP because we need Folio to communicate with outside apps (D to D).

What about Consortia? (Consortia is above institution in the hierarchy.)

Please review the slide deck for part 2 of this discussion.
