45Min | Internationalization | "The questions I would like to ask at ra.. do people have a need to go beyond what Folio already supports.. this is a spin off question form the i18n group.. do institutions have the need for folio to support multiple languages for a single tenant.. if so how deep do those translations need to go. The group is trying to get a general sense of people's needs and expectations to help shape what it recommends." | ||
Meeting Notes - David Bottorff, note-taker
Internationalization - Thomas Trutt
discussion began as a spin-off of group Zach Burke started around multilingual implementation
Institutions that have campuses on multiple continents or bilingual (Canada-Quebec)
how deep should multilingual support go? for things like patron groups, material type, etc?
how are institutions handling it now?
Andrea - multilanguage seems like it would be confusing? Duke - separate tenant for China because of lack of support for multiple timezones or currencies - tied to and more important than support for multiple languages. This wasn't highly ranked, does anyone else care about this?
Jana - could see a desire but not as big for German consortia; would have a separate system
David B - not really an issue for Chicago. Seems like it would be a big lift, and has implications not just for the UI but for the LDP/reporting
Andrea would be a nice to have but not nearly as important to have as other features we don't have
Jana-would be logical to be at the user level
Thomas-current place that has this did text-based mapping, which is fragile
how do you share materials between these sites? Andrea-having a separate tenant is not the worst for Duke, because we fulfill via ILL
are there other FOLIO libraries with these needs?
Andy-why is there motivation to address this at the level of FOLIO in the absence of institutions that have identified a need
Andrea and Jana-really not a high priority, and they seem to be the only institutions for whom this is likely to have a need
Do we have an obligation to this as a core value? Andy-we don't have the luxury for that beyond the aspirational. Andrea agrees.
Jana-what is the industry standard? need to review this more generally with RA needs in FOLIO
No one is aware of a commercial product that does this
Laurence Mini - curious about countries that use 3 digits in their currency
Julie Bickle -
heads up re a feature to reduce clicks on generating staff slips, would like to present an updated workflow to the SIG soon
working on adding loan type as a token and a few comments in the channel
Jana-any questions regarding WolfCon?
