Bulk edit of Instance record notes (FOLIO and MARC) - a follow-up to Bulk edit UAT

@Magda Zacharska

Proposed new UI:

Feedback/discussion

  • Like approach and longer term with double accordion is clear

  • Option 2 looks good if one considers that later there we be other types of records [so you have to be able to expand]

  • Felix: I have a concern when naming the options "FOLIO" and "MARC". The source field in the instance is just a string field and there can be instances with other sources as well. To me the difference between the 2 options is, if there is an underlying record in SRS that has to be edited or not. For example, the German library networks are using other source codes then FOLIO and don't have SRS records, but want to be able to use Bulk Edit as well on those records.

    • Instance with source FOLIO = instance with no underlying SRS

    • could localize the labels to change language and what label reads, e.g. German libraries could be different from US

      • German subgroup on translations - try to keep same but could discuss

    • suggestions for changes:

      • Instances with source MARC, Instances with source non-MARC

      • Instances with srs MARC

      • Instances with/without source MARC

        • we might have different sources for non-MARC data, though

      • Rather than Bibliographic record (source FOLIO), maybe Instance descriptive data (source FOLIO)

      • Instances, Instances with source MARC, Instances with source BIBFRAME

  • Issue of Linked Data - will also have folio and srs and starting in Sunflower will be able to edit but only through LD editor. Might add link to navigate to editor

  • Bulk edit is not for everyone, consequences can be significant. Can lead very easily to data corruption.

    • see slides for more details on permissions

PC updates

@Charlotte Whitt

Announcements: Reading Room Access functionality to be presented at a future PC meeting. New calendar functionality. Will test out Google calendar.

The PC reviewed the the document was created in 2023, and updated with notes from April 2024. The pilot phase is done, and the document is now official. The document is linked to directly from the main page on wiki.folio.org.

The PC’s review is a supportive process, and less a enquiring process. The PC do want to understand new functionality contributed to the FOLIO system.

All functionality evaluated by the PC are listed here.

What requires review by the PC: New apps, cross app functionality, and new modules which will be accessed using the UI. But there might be a grey zone. If in doubt then come to the PC and present your new work.

Early on presentations is valuable for the community, and ensure broader understanding of new work.

Following values and criteria will the PC be focusing on: App description, App delivery description, Uniqueness, Dependencies, Testing, End-user Documentation. The PC will talk with the Product Owners on how the PC can better support them. The PC will try to attend the PO’s meeting. The SIG liaisons will present for the respective SIGs.
