Proposed technical specs document (from Library of Congress)

Intended to be a data model, not policy or front end

Add 2 new attributes to most fields in an Instance record

• Vernacular Script

• Linking component where Latin and non-Latin scripts are linked/grouped together

Implications for:

• Any other component in FOLIO that uses Title from Inventory

  • Breaking change for FOLIO; previous proposal got stopped at Technical Council

• Search results

• Primary Contributors: only one is currently allowed

• Indexing

Questions to think about:

• Could there be a property that identifies the preferred title to be consumed by external applications when multiple are present? Or an institutional setting that provides a preferred script, or hierarchy of scripts, when multiple are present?

• Take proposal to Cross App SIG due to implications for other apps using Inventory data?

• Is it better to go for the breaking change and get it right the first time? It would be the best representation of the data.

2024-10-17 Product Council Agenda and Meeting Notes

Announcements: The PC continue the work on the shared calendar.

Jeremy Huff was involved in the review of mod-marc-migrations TCR-43. The module was not handling connection with third party tools as required by the TC. The TC Request has been deferred.

Recruiting bugfest volunteers - topic rescheduled to 10/31/2024.

Follow up from WOLFCon 2024, pt. 2 - Review high level goals and prioritize DRAFT Goals coming out of WOLFCon 2024 - Two specific topics of interest for this group: Reporting in FOLIO and Linked data interoperability.

The PC has also started a wiki page with important dates - DRAFT Key Dates for PC Goal Planning

Bulk Edit - Reviewed the MARC SRS Notes new feature. Discussed how to handle system errors (one idea pitched was to provide system/log details that could be emailed)

The Lists App is looking for use cases for Finance and Acquisitions. We discussed the first one of having a list of Orders with no connected invoices. Use Cases for More Complex Lists for the Lists App
