Announcements

Jennifer, Christie, and Yael are leading the WOLFcon workshop portion of the Data Import session. We want to know what you want us to cover. If you have a chance, fill out our survey. Survey Link: https://forms.gle/vzjMZZMBJgC6BT4t8

In Slack from Christine Shultz-Richert:

Hello everyone! I have a new survey opportunity for gathering feedback on searching and browsing in both Inventory and MARC authority apps. This form is intended to inform new features and enhancements, as well as better understand priorities. A summary of the feedback will be shared, as well as used to help facilitate the Inventory & MARC authority Search Prioritization session at WOLFcon this year (September 26th, 1:30pm - 2:20pm). Even if you will not be attending WOLFcon, you are encouraged to provide any feedback you may have. The deadline for the survey is Friday, September 6th, 2024.

Date sort/filter

@Christine Schultz-Richert

UXPROD-4746: Sort, filter, and mapping changes for DatesIn Review

Update: Implementation in progress

  1. New fields to store:

    1. Date type

      1. For MARC-source instances, this will be mapped from 008/06

    2. Two dates (four characters)

      1. For MARC-source instances, this will be mapped from 008/07-14

  2. Date type: Helps interpret the dates provided (i.e., range, single date, two related dates), especially how they are displayed on the results list

  3. Interpreting the dates for sorting/filtering is done by creating calculated fields in mod-search

  4. Note: current publication date field is retained in the schema; just not used for filtering/sorting

Question: Can we remove “publicationPeriod.start” and “publicationPeriod.end” from the schema since they will no longer be parsed as the sortable/filterable data?

  • These fields are not surfaced in the UI.

  • Unsure if they are used by serial records and needs to be checked.

  • Replacing these properties with the new sortable properties from the MARC 008.

Date will be at the bottom of descriptive data accordion.

Results list mockup: date column will move after publishers column; filtering in left menu, actions > sort by

Out of scope question: Could the holdings statement(s) or a summary show in the Instance in addition to its “home” location in the Holding record? Some sort of overview of what the library actually holds of a journal/periodical/serial.

Demo of fix for UIIN-2889

@Christine Schultz-Richert

UIIN-2889: Call numbers with trailing spaces do not appear in browse by type optionsClosed

Scope of fix: Spaces entered in Call number field are not saved; trailing and leading spaces are removed and the call number will be found in Browse

Question: does this include hard returns at the beginning and/or end of the call number? - Yes, hard returns are removed.

White spaces before the call number is also removed.

**Only impacts newly entered data, not existing/legacy data.**

Question: Will this approach be used for other fields as well? Example: barcodes. Yes, can be applied to other fields.
