Multiple graphical representations

• Confirm very high-level requirements: Multiple graphic representation reqs

• Proposal on how to meet our needs and would like to take it to developers but first Christine wants to make sure she is communicating the main needs/requirements (see slides for more details)

  • Ability to search either script and retrieve the same Instance

  • Display the multiple graphical representations in the same Instance field (non-repeatable fields)

    • Do we have a need to be able to configure which script is first or considered some sort of primary, or is it enough to consider it in the order in which the data is entered?

      • Possibly a question we should ask in RA SIG--maybe too much information for check in screens, etc.

  • Display the multiple graphical representations in the same Instance fields (repeatable)

    • Need UI recommendations to indicate which records in the table are paired

  • Display the multiple graphical representations in the results list

    • could get very long and difficult to decipher, maybe need to consider just showing primary or would we want all scripts to show?

      • If searching by original script, would want to see original script in results

      • Laura created a table showing which fields we would want to be displayed

      • Maybe introduce in settings define how many characters should display in the results (number of characters per representation)--could be useful for ALL records, not just those with multiple graphic representation--possibly for title and contributor fields (will need further discussion)

      • Idea was to have representations in two separate lines (Arabic script is from right to left so having everything in one line is annoying)

  • Ability to add new graphical representations for single fields on the Instance record and identify paired scripts when source is not MARC

    • How should user be able to enter these representations when source is FOLIO?

      • Per Magda - Usually Romanized form is in main resource title and original script is in alternative title

      • Raegan--perhaps add another button for other graphical representation (for non-repeatable fields, probably more difficult for repeatable fields) – use to link primary field to other graphical representation

  • Christine will probably present these concepts to developers just to get the ball rolling (even though more decisions need to be made)
