MEETING NOTES

@Charlotte Whitt

  • ElasticSearch Update- With the start of Kiwi development (Prokopovych team), it is clear Inventory could not continue with the old PostgreSQL search engine and needs to move to ElasticSearch (ES). ES  is much faster. The UI however also needs to be updated with the newest search UI. There were several subject matter experts (SME) that pushed back with the need to have the search dropdown menu in UI for ES to replace the search keys interface. At last Tuesday’s Implementers meeting it was agreed that development should move forward with ES for the Kiwi release along with downtown the menu interface but that development on search facets could wait for the Lotus release. This release will also provide an accurate result count which has been lacking with PostgreSQL.

@Charlotte Whitt

  • Charlotte asked for assistance with Kiwi bugfest testing of the dropdown interface to ES now available in the bugfest environment. Bugfest Ends tomorrow but Charlotte will ask Anton for a couple of extra days to do this testing.

  • Charlotte will let us know when tests are available. She has rewritten the tests so testers only need to focus on the testing itself.

  • The highlighting of barcodes was discussed as it relates to ES UI enhancements.  This is still available in the UI, so just need to be sure not to lose it. Item menu still defaults in collapsed mode.

  • Will there be other changes expected for ES in Lotus? Road Map Planning is now integrated into JIRA. This is very good for the POs as they live there. Facets will come back in the LOTUS release as well as other low-hanging fruit, e.g. functionality available on the back end but need to be implemented in the UI.

  • Multicolumn is what we are stuck with for now until the hierarchical display is developed for inventory.

  • ES implement search across all properties of all records (UI1645) – able to search on all properties. ES can do this as it is very fast across large datasets.

  • From the PC - Prioritization working group. We will no longer have institutional ranking as we have been doing for some time. Not an appropriate tool anymore as we scale up to more libraries. The community needs to figure out how we will rank development.

  • We are looking for volunteers to serve on the working group. Reach out to @Jana Freytag , @Tod Olson , or @Anya to volunteer.

  • The timeline - proposal will be submitted by March 2022.

  • MARC Holdings create, edit, update, is available for testing in In Kiwi bugfest.

  • Looking for volunteer MARC Holdings experts to take test cases in bugfest.

  • Please give any additional feedback to Khalilah Gambrell.

Use of Labels

  • If you are interested in seeing sprints - announced in general channel and dev. channel. You can also subscribe to the Open Library Foundation YouTube channel.

  • Note: FOLIO-wide development sprint reviews and demos are usually held at the end of every 2 sprints (4 weeks), on Tuesdays 11 am-12:30 pm US ET. They are included in the FOLIO Sprint calendar. The demos are an opportunity for the various development teams to show the work they have accomplished in recent weeks. Though the demos mostly focus on new feature work, teams' development work also includes bug fixes, technical debt, and automated tests.

  • Sprint demo recordings are available within a couple of days on the OLF YouTube Channel

  • Links to the demo slides are included in the YouTube description of the recording.

  • Slides are great to keep on top of what is currently in development, and what is upcoming.

  • Help is needed to update the search tips page for ES. The page currently has screenshots from the PostgresSQL search interface.

  • The PostgresSQL interface search tips will need to be kept for a while as we still have implementers on releases using this.

  • Please reach out if you have agenda items for upcoming meetings.
