Discussion items
Product Council Update | Minutes from today's PC meeting: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1W6POIxdgbQNmDtCUuILu9XR_SuWZcmAOWDglQ851C3U/edit
MM rep for Forum Facilitators Group | Laura E Daniels | Big thanks to Ann Kardos for volunteering! |
Subgroup & other updates? | Charlotte is starting on the work of printing spine labels. Charlotte is looking for feedback. If someone is interested, please contact Charlotte. Work is needed for next quarter and so will be happen in next few weeks. Emma Boettcher is beginning an Item State group. Some MM members have volunteered.
A OCLC single record import update | Mike Gorrell | - UXPROD-976Getting issue details... STATUS Chicago, Cornell, Duke and Texas A&M are working on this with Index Data. Representatives from each group will be informing the development. Mike walked through the plans for this added functionality. Talked about pull and push. Pull: Work begins in FOLIO, information is pulled in from OCLC. Push: Work begins in Connexion and record goes into FOLIO from there. Pull method was preferred by libraries involved. New Record: Plans to launch action from Inventory / Instance screen based on OCLC Identifer. Record can be saved. From there processes will continue with existing FOLIO functions. Existing Record: Edit Instance, "refresh from OCLC" will be available by Identifier on Instance record. Requirements - will only be triggered from Inventory (not SRS) This will not work with SkyRiver - it is specifically designed around OCLC. However, SkyRiver works with Z39.50 so there may be some options there. A record will be created in SRS. Using the Data Import functionality, but not the Data Import app. Work is planned to begin in June and end in September - Q3 or Q4 release. |
Effective Call Numbers | Effective Location determines where an item's current home location is. When an item is checked in at a Service Point that is not the home location, the Effective Location turns to "InTransit". Possible problem: All scenarios assume the existence of an item, which is not always the case. Will model work for reporting when we want to export the Effective location? Inventory search and filter may be affected since it only looks at records with Effective Location, which is in the Item Record. Need a way for circ desk workers and metadata management to search for items by location and return Inventory information. Can Effective Location get divorced from the item record? Use case: If someone would like a report of everything in a particular location, it would be ideal to have one point of access for the location. If there are Instances without Items, some items in the location being considered will not come out in a report or search. Current thinking: Make Effective Location an "abstraction" - divorce it from the item record.
Inventory Documentation Edit-a-Thon | Will be happening March 27 12-4 pm Eastern Time: Inventory (Inventory tips and tricks page) For every app there are pages of documentation - some are placeholders. Action: Volunteers needed to collaborate on creating documentation for Inventory pages. It does not have to be in a perfect final form. You can start to record information. If you need a wiki logon let Laura know. She will help you get a log on. Laura wondered if people would want to participate in a virtual "editathon". Ann-Marie suggested using this page as a model for a similar page for Inventory - Settings - Reference data decisions and load sequence for migration >Individual Apps - Information, Tips, and Tricks
Future MM meetings | Do we want to start formally splitting meetings between development and implementation discussions? Have a more organic structure? Something else entirely? What future topics would you like to discuss? https://docs.google.com/document/d/1u1tvfVxn6i3fTImrWWCYHlh7RT5cf3_G7YgDuxKob4M/edit Please think about this over the next week.
Future meeting topics | - REP-234Getting issue details... STATUS (overlap analysis) need to collaborate with RM – Chalmers is interested as well (incorporates Inventory & e-Holdings plus ???) see also - REP-92Getting issue details... STATUS Statistical codes: type = "Action" – create list of recommended values Refine the result list - work planned for development Q3 2020 - UXPROD-1634Getting issue details... STATUS and slide deck about hierarchical display of result list Filip Jakobsen suggests to use Message banner (a new component) to display if an instance record is marked as: Suppressed from discovery, Staff suppress, or Previous held, or holdings/item is marked Suppressed for discovery. This use is intended as a MVP solution: https://ux.folio.org/docs/guidelines/components/message-banner/ Post-MVP we aim for ux consitency with MARCcat. - STCOM-592Getting issue details... STATUS Source format (FOLIO, MARC and more) and Source of truth (SRS, LIBRIS, K10Plus and more). Review the FOLIO metadata flow based on test of the newly implementation of edit freeze of records in Inventory when having only SRS and Inventory installed. - UXPROD-2249Getting issue details... STATUS Inventory, MARCcat, Data Import Permissions interaction review Search enhancements - possible also look at more general requirements for defining search, e.g. when to use: Phrase search, Truncating (left and/or right), Stemming, Nested search, Boolean search, etc. (TC and MM task) - UXPROD-140Getting issue details... STATUS - UXPROD-2180Getting issue details... STATUS Discovery – need to clarify sources of data for discovery vs. data needed for operations; this needs to be documented for the entire FOLIO community and direction should come from Product Council Item statuses and the apps that affect them - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/19_aA7bhRIxhcC6Gz-rK_LrfOtz8F5VaOmOcsFsdGU8I/edit#gid=2006676577 Music / Maps / Media cataloging review of data elements in Inventory - UIIN-864Getting issue details... STATUS Texas A&M may have a music cataloger that can help. Christie offered to load cartographic and music data from other libraries into their test FOLIO instance. Jennifer (via chat): We should also look at video as well. Videos have other standard numbers EAN for instance and fields that people like to search and discovery them by https://folio-org.atlassian.net/browse/REP-234 https://wiki.folio.org/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=78336464 |
