Discussion items

Product Council Update

Agenda & notes

Product Council discussed the Vision and Strategy document. No major changes were suggested. Vision and Strategy Document:

@Marcia Borensztajn Posted a draft proposal of documentation docs.folio.org

Members for the Privacy SIG are still needed. They are particularly interested in having people who have to navigate GDPR

Other updates/announcements

The bound-withs and analytics working group had a conversation with developers. A single item record that can be linked to more than one holdings record is the model that is being considered at this point.

Inventory Implementers page?

@Laura E Daniels

should we do something like ERM has done? This could be used to suggest development, help each other find solutions and workarounds for currently development

Laura will create the page and share the link to that in our Slack channel.

005 behavior in MARC SRS

@Ann-Marie Breaux (Deactivated)

Field 005 PPT

(copied from Slack #metadata-management)

https://www.loc.gov/marc/authority/ad005.html
We recently discovered that this value is not being updated in SRS MARC Bibs in FOLIO, when updates are made to a MARC record via Data Import or via quickMARC. My expectation is:
1. The 005 should NOT be updated when a MARC record is first created in SRS if nothing is changed in it (for example, if migration is hitting SRS directly and retaining existing 001s).

Group agrees. Examples considered: Sending records out for external processing, then reimport.

Lloyd: Sierra does not change the 005 date. It has a separate place where the update is reflected. The date serves to tell which record from OCLC is newer in the case of duplicate records found. Could we have an SRS updated date, outside of the MARC record, similar to Sierra functions?

2. The 005 SHOULD be updated when a MARC record is first created in SRS if the 001/003 are moved to an 035 field, and a new 001 (the Instance HRID) is created.

Should the 005 be updated? Potential solution: It could be an optional protected field, as long as the MARC record updated date is available somewhere.

3. The 005 SHOULD be updated whenever any field in the SRS MARC record is updated.

4. The 005 field should NOT be updated when a field outside of the MARC record is updated. For example, we store the "Suppress from discovery" flag in SRS, but in a field outside of the MARC record. If the "Suppress from discovery" flag changes, I would not expect the MARC 005 to be updated.
Is that your understanding as well? Anything else I should be aware of with regards to the 005 field? I'll work on some stories to get this fixed.
And one last question: should we aim to get this fix into Honeysuckle, or can it wait until Iris?

tags in Inventory

@Ann-Marie Breaux (Deactivated)

Inventory Tags

Review tags placement for Instance, Holdings, and Item records

Tags open in a fourth pane as a convention in the system. For records that open full screen,  tags can be at the very top, or just under the admin data, in an accordion.

Use of tags? Ann-Marie thinks of them as more ephemeral. Good way to pull together batches that need attention to be drawn to. Could be used to help move through a process. Reporting on tags: Can filter in Inventory. Not a controlled list. Intention is to give a less controlled way to mark things. Tags will surface in the LDP.

Questions about our ideal search environment

Does MM want to respond collectively? As individual institutions? Both?

Action: Gather institutional opinions.
