Description

Purpose: For the purpose of Music / Maps / Media and Video cataloging the MM-SIG will initiate a review of data elements in Inventory. The topic is filed on the MM-SIG list of topics for future meetings.

Some possible areas that need review:

  • 336 $a is a repeatable field in MARC, but Resource type is not repeatable in the Instance. Should Resource type become a repeatable field?

  • Should there be a separate data element for Form/Genre, which 655 fields can map into? If so, make sure it's repeatable. Also, it would be helpful to be clear on how this differs from the Nature of content data element

  • Consider whether fields for the MARC 38x fields are needed. 382 (Medium of performance) was specifically mentioned.

  • Are there other fields from the EAD/Archives mapping work that need to be considered? When ready, discuss with the members of that workgroup.
