Recently submitted "union catalog" app idea

 Background

  • PC effort to collect ideas for apps on FOLIO platform
  • FOLIO App Ideas
  • workflow for submitted ideas
    • review in PC
    • assign to SIG for review
      • engage with idea submitter (flesh out details, etc.)
      • SIG can choose to move idea forward for development or put it on hold if other dependencies need to come into play first
  • PC thought Consortia SIG should do first review (though it touches on other areas too)

Discussion

  • patron-facing user interface is no longer an important part of the "union catalog" concept; we may want to rethink the naming of this so as not to give the impression that we are creating a UI
  • interest in the states as well to have both push and pull from a union catalog (without human intervention); in Germany, currently there is the ability to pull from the union catalog but not to push back up
  • there is probably some design overlap between this feature and the idea of exposing records/inventories for sharing between libraries (i.e. peer-to-peer)
  • this also might overlap with a conversation that Sebastian Hammer would like to have with Consortia SIG about a hierarchical/clustering model for bib records

Next steps

  • David Dahl and Peter Murray will work on making sure these new ideas/comments are reflected in JIRA
  • David Dahl will track down notes from previous Union Catalog discussion(s)
