Resource Sharing
Tiers
Resource sharing between libraries takes many different forms. The following "tiers" of resource sharing distinguish the various types of resource sharing.
Label | Description | Responsible Party | Mediated/Unmediated | Online/In-Person | Systems | JIRA | Examples |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Interlibrary Loan | Sharing of resources between two libraries that have no formalized relationship. | Patron Library | Mediated | Online | ILLiad, Tipasa | ||
Mixed ILS Mediated | Libraries that are part of a consortial resource sharing network may run different ILSes and utilize external software to mediate requests and borrowing. | Patron Library | Mediated | Online | Reshare, Inn-reach, Autographics, Relais, RapidILL | ||
Mixed ILS Unmediated | Libraries that are part of a consortial resource sharing network may run different ILSes and utilize external software to mediate requests and borrowing. | Owning Library??? | Unmediated | Both | ShareIt (Autographics) | https://www.btaa.org/docs/default-source/library/btaaclirecipagreement2016.pdf?sfvrsn=2 | |
Cross-tenant Unmediated | A consortial resource sharing network where all libraries are housed in individual FOLIO tenants (either on the same FOLIO installation or multiples installations) and necessary data exchange occurs across the owning library's and patron library's tenants. | Patron Library (though possibly Owning Library in some current cases) | Unmediated | Both | |||
Single-tenant Unmediated | A resource sharing arrangement within a consortium where each library is set up like a branch library within a single FOLIO tenant. FOLIO's location hierarchy is used to determine loan rules for the consortium. Patron and item databases are shared by all libraries in the consortium. | ?? | Unmediated | Both | FOLIO |
