Multi-tenant consortial borrowing (UXPROD-795: Patrons can borrow/request/hold/recall/renew items directly from non-home member libraries (unmediated & cross tenant) with which their library has a resource sharing relationshipOpen and UXPROD-796: Patrons can be restricted from borrowing/requesting/recalling/renewing items directly from non-home member librariesClosed)

ILS or external system?

  • FLO - through ILS; affiliate members who walk-in are added to the system and can borrow; for sending/receiving items ILLiad is used

  • HBZ - use ILL for institution-to-institution borrowing

    • walk-in users get some privileges; depends on policies of library

  • for multi-tenant resource sharing, real time checks for a consortium patron's ability to borrow would be preferable to requiring patron's to be loaded into each tenant

Privileges/restrictions

  • FLO - Voyager uses patron groups;

  • OhioLink - length of loan material is dependent on patron group

    • media loaning - can borrow if library is also lending their media

  • what about blocks?

    • should patrons blocked locally be blocked from resource sharing

    • at a minimum consortium libraries should know about local block; might even be a non-issue to enforce a consortial block as long as there is the ability to override it

Renewals/recalls

  • Extensions of loan periods through renewals needs to be closely tied to the ability for an owning library to get the item back quickly
