WOLFcon 2023 Update

Impacts of New Fields and Features

  • Are there any new fields or features we should know about from any of the functional areas that may impact reporting?
    • (Jennifer Eustis) from MM: a new field for item source
      • instance and holdings both have source (MARC or FOLIO); for MARC, there is an underlying MARC srs ecord, but not for FOLIO
      • some libraries have asked for item source; they don't do cataloguing in FOLIO and want to keep track of the source at the item level
      • still in draft, and there is some concern about naming it "source" since it is not connected to SRS, just relating to the record of truth, or maybe provenance
      • German libraries, source can be union catalog or FOLIO
      • proposal: New field in the item record: Source ID - Functional analysis
    • (Stefan Dombek) feature with Orchid: in the module audit, we have logs for orders and order lines and snapshot for create, edit, and delete records (unfortunately not for fiscal year rollover, just create/edit/delete; need to know the date of your FYO and then report based on that)
    • (Jennifer Eustis) in the past we've talked about duplicate UUIDs, which causes problems with data import and export; at 5C, we'd love to see a log for when this is an issue
      • with import, the exit status is negative if there is a duplicate
      • development team was aware of this, but now we have a JIRA ticket to ask for the actual UUIDs that are duplicated and allow people to address the issue
      • MDEXP-625 - Getting issue details... STATUS

Upcoming meeting topics (tentative)

  • August 17 (Th): Angela on new cookbook page for MARC querying with ldpmarc
  • August 28 (M): Cancelled
  • September 7 (Th): Troubleshooting SQL
  • September 11 (M): report from WOLFcon

Sign up for the MM/RA/UM query development subgroup

  • Starting in September, Christie Thomas (UChicago) will be leading the MM/RA/UM subgroup! Thanks, Christie!
  • The group will continue to meet once a month
  • Fill out the scheduling poll by Friday, August 18 if you would like to attend

Any new members?

SIG Recruitment

We will need to be recruiting for a variety of roles in the coming months. Please consider whether you would be interested. Reach out to Angela Zoss (Old) or Sharon Markus with any questions.

  • Representative for the Documentation Working Group
  • Query developers
  • Members of the FOLIO Analytics Review Board (immediate need!)

Overview of LDPStefan / Axel
  • D-Reporting is interested in having an overview of the LDP, what are the benefits of the software
  • SIG is the appropriate group to be working on that
  • Should this be a wiki page? An analysis of different solutions?
    • maybe a table of different solutions, and how they each stack up against different desired features (e.g., "open source solution", "near-real time data", "separate database from operational database")
  • Most libraries are interested in Metadb, but they need an official document outlining what the features (could be useful for justifying the cost of support contracts)
  • Timeframe: maybe by end of year or early 2024
  • Would be best that this is somewhat independent from Index Data
  • FOLIO docs (https://docs.folio.org/docs/reporting/) has a list of features
  • Could also build off FOLIO Reporting Options to get a list of alternatives
  • Additional request for a table that has checks for different features
  • Can limit to just Metadb, need live data
  • First step, yes, can just do pros and cons about Metadb
  • Maybe pull together that basic list in the next couple of months, share draft with D-Reporting, see if that list is enough
  • LDP project is an OLF project, but still in incubator status
  • TBD: who is going to draft the first version of the list (check with Tod after WOLFcon)
  • Sharon and Scott will keep an eye on this as well

Project updates

Reporting development is using small subgroups to address priorities and complete work on report queries.  Each week, these groups will share reports/queries with the Reporting SIG.  Reporting development team leads are encouraged to enter a summary of their work group activities below.

RA/UM Working Group

MM Working Group

ERM Working Group

  • Current topic
    • Reporting for the FOLIO App Open Access
  • Meetings are bi-weekly on tuesdays 11am ET alternating with ACQ Working Group
    • Next meeting will be at 15th, Aug
    • Contact Stefan Dombek if you would like to get a calendar invitation

ACQ Working Group

Reporting SIG Documentation Subgroup

  • Morning Glory documentation is live on https://docs.folio.org/docs/
  • Nolana documentation is in review
  • Orchid documentation will be in progress soon, and plans are underway to include beta-level documentation for Metadb
  • Additional Context
    • The Reporting SIG has representation on the Documentation Working Group, which is building end-user documentation for https://docs.folio.org/docs/ (mostly linking to existing documentation over on GitHub)

External Statistics Working Group

  • no updates currently
  • new organizational/tracking scheme for JIRA, with pointers to queries in folio-analytics repository
  • New organizational structure for External Statistics reports
    • external statistics reports (e.g., ACRL) typically require running queries from different functional reporting areas
    • these reports will be captured in JIRA under one UXPROD-XXXX report cluster issue, then the descriptions will point to each of the queries required to run them on the folio-analytics repository
    • institutions will need to rank each of these 8 new UXPROD-XXXX report cluster issues
    • each reporting development team will take responsibility for the queries in their area for the external statistics clusters

D-A-CH Working Group (D-Reporting)

  • Ongoing topics
    • Onboarding training
    • DBS statistics
      • JIRA-Issues, Rpt-Clusters
      • Gap analysis to statistic codes, user counts etc.
      • Identifying functions that we need for statistics in Germany but are not yet implemented in FOLIO
  • Meetings
    • Next meeting will be at 14th, Aug (1 pm, CEST)
    • Contact Stefan Dombek if you would like to get a calendar invitation
