Notes
Check-in notes
- Needed for covers most task-related check-in notes; other fields in Inventory cover damaged, missing pieces, etc.
- Check-in notes (manual) would most likely be used if there wasn't an appropriate Needed for
- Need to be able to back out of a check-in
Combining check in notes with other alerts
- Option 1: Display check in notes, pieces count, and Needed For instructions in one modal
- Option 2: Sequence pieces count, check in notes, and Needed For instructions in sequential modals
Greatest concern is usability, so should be vetted through usability test.
Lost and missing items
Chart of states & possible scenarios
- 4 separate ways of describing an item whose location is unknown:
- On a patron's account, but very overdue ("aged to lost")
- On a patron's account, and the patron says they've lost it ("declared lost")
- Not on the shelf or on a patron's account, but worth searching for ("missing")
- Not worth searching for anymore ("long missing")
How these states change:
- The payment/resolution of an "aged to lost" or "declared lost" item changes the state so that the library can determine whether to replace it
- Need to be able to keep track of different payment methods, but especially replace copy (so that the library isn't buying it redundantly)
- "Missing" changes state after a lot of time has passed/it's been thoroughly searched
"Long missing" could be better named so that it refers to all "this item is never going to turn up" states.
- "Aged to lost" → payment → "this item is never going to turn up"
- "Declared lost" → payment → "this item is never going to turn up"
- "Missing" → time → "this item is never going to turn up"
