UXPROD-4405: Sort cards in a customisable orderClosed | @Kimie Kester @Gill Osguthorpe ALL
Minutes
Sort cards in a customisable order
Mock-ups:
Mock-ups by Kimie
user can define in view mode whether cards should sort by name, category, date added
very good feedback, mock-ups look very useful to the group
request: insert primary and secondary sort in view mode - as in Gill's mock-ups a primary and secondary sort should be available (currently there is one sort dropdown)
request: add the option to sort asc or desc
Mock-ups by Gill
option 1 is manual sorting - this option is easier to implement - sorting would work best when not too many cards - keyboard shortcuts would be added
option 2: giving weight is something users are used to do e.g. for license terms in settings - this would be a similar option - sorting would be more difficult to change
option 3: primary and secondary sorting that can be defined in edit mode - sort order can be set for one user and one session
Preferred option is option 3
request: add the option to sort asc or desc
to define the sort order people prefer to do it in the UI instead of the settings (as described in mock-ups)
reason: define sort order in settings would be more complicated
as a second step people can imagine to set a default sorting in settings in addition to the option through the UI presented by Gill and Kimie
generally option 3 is preferred, but there might be a different sorting needed for different searches
Owen: for documents a manual order via drag and drop might be more helpful
proposal: add a user defined sort as an option in the dropdown
for results lists drag and drop might make more sense as well
AI SIG agrees that it would be good to get more input
cards are used in other areas as for user addresses or in ACQ
Laura: it would be good to have the same model at other places, e.g. for Inventory - then drag and drop
Charlotte agrees
Items display in barcode order in Inventory
they are layed out as a list
for MCLs a ranking column might make sense
for MCLs a primary and secondary sort would be useful as well
when sorting MCLs: the last 2 sorts are joined together - this works for results lists - but does not seem to work for embedded MCLs - we would need to check the kackend request
but the joined sorts work e.g. for Agreements results
in Inventory there exist "Actions" for results - option existing to sort the column heading for immediate view - does not only work for columns, but e.g. for "refernce" which is not displayed in a column
having the option to sort asc or desc for cards as well as MCLs would be great
important: we should not add more complexity to FOLIO UI by just adding this option
Charlotte proposes a broad UAT - reason: development of this feature could be expensive
we should reach out to POs - to learn which apps use cards or something other than a list

18:13:30 From Kimie (Keemee) Kester To Martina Schildt | VZG(Privately):
Thank you so much for sharing. I’m sorry I was not prepared to share my screen. Running late with other things on my mind.

No worries, it was a pleasure - thanks so much for the work you did

I thought the plan for having cards in Inventory was nixxed

Then maybe UXPROD-491 should be closed as Won’t do?

Does the hierarchical display require that we use the card model? Or might there be other options for hierarchical results display?

Replying to "I thought the plan f..."
I'm hesitant for us to close that issue entirely

Well, I'm not sure it was officially announced. But I do know that LC seems to have people working on enhancing the MCL for Inventory.

Natascha there was a talk in #metadata-management channel very recently. Here it sounded on Khalilah that no work really was planned. Can I point you to that conversation, and you can share your information re. LoC’s work

Thanks, Charlotte. I guess the only MCL refinement being worked on is splitting out the publication date (and I am assuming this is stemming from LoC needs based on some previous conversations)

+ 1 Laura
18:38:17 From Ros, Amanda L To Everyone:
agreed, barcode ordering is useless
18:39:34 From Charlotte Whitt To Everyone:
You can sort on the heading arrow, Martina
18:41:21 From Kristin Martin To Everyone:
It's also worth noting that if you view the holdings, you can no longer view the associated items.
18:45:01 From Maura Byrne To Everyone:
It looks like it might be happening across apps, but there’s no visual signal.

18:56:11 From Owen Stephens To Everyone:
Certainly we have a driving use case for the card sort UI in agreements and licenses
