Horizontal scrolling Avoid horizontal scrolling
  • the need is to be able to focus
    • focus on specific panes
    • focus on MCLs
  • could be solved by an icon, e.g. a "magnifying glass"
  • this icon could be placed next to MCLs, panes
  • in addition a keyboard shortcut would be useful - for less clicking
    • to focus
    • to "unfocus"
  • panes or MCLs could be opened in a separate modal
    • an extra tab would be more difficult to close and get back to the original screen - would be more clicking
      • Jana in chat: you can switch between tabs with Ctrl+Shift
  • requirement: it should be easy to focus on specific areas, but even more to easily get back/"unfocus"
  • Charlotte in chat: could be a solution for the item detail list in Inventory
  • Kristin: you loose the place in results list when you click on a title in Inventory that then opens in third pane
  • Dung-Lan agrees
  • Natascha in chat: It would be nice to be able to pop out the third frame (kind of like when you open up an item detail)
  • To Do: Charlotte will create a ticket for the Inventory requirement in Jira and Kristin will provide a short video that describes the behaviour
  • Martina Schildt to create a ticket on the "ability to focus and unfocus on specific areas (panes, MCLs) > UXPROD-4675 - Getting issue details... STATUS

MCLs - scrolling

I noticed a little stumbling block today when navigating in Folio: If you make the browser window quite narrow, then horizontal scroll bars appear at the bottom of the first and second columns. For the third column, there is usually no such bar, because the contents of that column are rearranged so that they are distributed more downward than to the right. So far everything is fine. However, if the third column contains a table that is both deeper and wider than the column, then initially no scroll bar is displayed, see the first attached screenshot.

You have to scroll to the bottom of the table first to see the table specific horizontal scrollbar, which can be a long way if the table is long, see 2nd screenshot.

In my opinion, this can make navigating through large tables difficult. It is possible to scroll left and right with the mouse wheel at any point in the table, but I'm not sure if every mouse supports this - and this possibility is not obvious from the display as long as no scrollbar is visible. Therefore, I would like to suggest that a scrollbar is permanently displayed below the entire 3rd column if a table is included that is wider than the column.

From WOLFCon

  • MCLs need to be responsive
  • question: do we need a recommended screen size?
  • not everyone has extra large or 2 screens
  • From an MM discussion: Idea to have an icon to expand 3rd column
  • would be good to be ale to toggle shot each pane
  • ideas:
    • ability to open table in separate modal
    • be able to collapse rows
    • add a shortcut for horizontal scrolling
    • have resizable tables (as for panes)

From today:

  • it would be helpful to freeze the scroll bar so that it is always visible
  • May be resolved when we find a good solution to focus on specific areas, such as panes, MCLs ... (see above)
Add table to Notes helper app / notes details

I should have mentioned this in our meeting yesterday, but forgot it. It would be helpful if one could also create tables in the "Details" section of the Notes app to store information like:

This is a screenshot from our internal Wiki. The information is suitable to be maintained in the ERM system. It's about the creation of analytic records in our catalogue.

  • this might be solved by custom fields
  • seems like a specific need that needs to get an own area
  • not a notes functionality
  • Martina will check back with Felix as this has been raised a while ago in ERM SIG and was forwarded to App Interaction
