Date

Meeting time due to time changes: 12 pm ET / 4 pm UK / 5 pm CET

Housekeeping

  • Meeting agenda and minutes on AI wiki instead of Google Drive: AI Meeting notes
    • goal: align the structure with FOLIO SIGs
    • topics are searchable in a better way

Discussion items

  1. Clickable links when entering URLs (Dennis)

Minutes

  • recently made this change in Organizations app
  • there is a number of places where users ususally enter URLs
  • requirement was, that wherever a URL is entered, this will display as a hyperlink
  • any field now where a user can add a URL it displays as a hyperlink
    • e.g. Contact people, Interfaces
  • this was done only for organizations so far
  • question: should this be added to Stripes components - should all URL fields be hyperlinks
  • Maura: this looks great; is this configurable in settings;
  • Dennis: this is coded in organizations app, so cannot be turned off
  • could be used for Mail addresses as well
  • Martina S.: only possible in URL fields or anywhere, e.g. in any text field
  • Dennis: no, only URL fields; for validation reasons
  • Laura: this is done in Inventory already; at least in instance record when there is a URL
  • Owen: in Agreements this is happening as well; e.g. title on platform link; a specific icon is indicating and opening the link in new tab; should be added for all URLs
  • consistent behaviour and usage of icons is aimed for
  • In ERM the URLs are sometimes coming from external sources
  • Dennis: it would be interesting to have an index of URL hyperlinked fields
  • if we had an indexed it would be an option to talking to the Stripes team - to have a common component for consistency - Dennis will create a story for the Stripes team and assign it to Khlailah - needs to go to Stripes (John Coburn) to talk about
  • Maura: if the capability already exists and is needed in other apps → it does not sound like a big ask, because the code is already there
    • not sure whether this is something that might cause issues in Users app due to security reasons
    • user might click on a mail link and have no permissions to view
    • there are policies
    • it feels insecure that someone can send a mail to a user who may not have permission to
    • if someone is forced to do 2 steps it is less likely this will happen by accident
  • Laura in chat: sounds like what we need is more granular permissions for access to users!
  • Maura will bring up the topic in the User Management meeting this week
  • collect specific use cases where a hyperlink is not wanted - use cases would be needed
  • Owen: you don't just get the things in Stripes, so you can choose not to use the functionality
  • Notes App has a HTML editor - can put in a link via HTML controls
  • Owen: putting in HTML is a bit of a risk if there is no validation
    • Maura in chat +1 Owen
  • Are there any other places in the UI where users can do that kind of editing?
    • it is nice to be able to use lists of bullet points
    • UM does not have that kind of HTML editor - interesting but not sure how much that is needed
  • Jana: maybe the templates for the templates for notices or staff slips
    • Owen: yes, there is an HTML editor in there - in patron notice template
  • Martina S.: maybe for future TO-DO-App or Workflow App or messages to vendors, but not aware that this is existing somewhere else
  • Owen: coming back to Laura's comment in chat: "sounds like what we need is more granular permissions for access to users!"
    • ACQ has done some work on this on record level with the acquisition units
  • Maura: there are levels of hierarchy, like if  a user is allowed to edit, he/she has view permissions automatically
  • Laura: there are even areas where we do not have this level of hierarchy
  • Owen: it is hard to prioritize work on permissions at the moment
    • this group could have a fruitful discussion on this
    • there are different models
      • model that we have
      • field level permissions
      • record level within a function a user can carry out
  • Martina S.: this is a good future topic - definitely need Erin for that talk

I mocked up a record with a link in both instance and holdings records: https://folio-snapshot-2.dev.folio.org/inventory/view/a25aea5c-07bc-430c-ae89-00f2a2197149?query=*&sort=title
instance hrid in00000000014

https://folio-snapshot-2.dev.folio.org/erm/agreements/7415e60a-ff5b-4bc6-8375-943daec8f77d has a URL in the “Supplementary Documents”
There are also some fields where the user can enter HTML
Von Laura Daniels (she/they) an alle 05:21 PM
the link in the item record behaves the same as the one in the holdings record
Von Owen Stephens an alle 05:25 PM
supports an HTML editor
might be pertinent?

Von Laura Daniels (she/they) an alle 05:31 PM
sounds like what we need is more granular permissions for access to users!
Von Dennis Bridges an alle 05:31 PM
Sorry I need to run. I will create and share the story for the stripes team 🙂
Von Maura Byrne an alle 05:33 PM
lot.
