Membership and acknowledging contributions of people by organizing

We decided prior to our current membership drive to focus on financial contributions and have a separate one for people resources. This overlaps some with our "FOLIO Resourcing Model" subgroup, but we've been pressed by FOLIO Members Grand Valley State University and EPAM to look into how people contributions can be documented, celebrated and count toward membership levels and membership benefits.

This is our main topic today.

BN-M - We cannot account for all the hours being invested in the product

IW - What does membership mean - if you put in money, you should get a say in how that money is allocated.  Effort contributed is a more direct means of having influence on the project, and shouldn't necessarily be backported to a Membership concept.

PS - We do have some issues with folks not delivering what was promised

PS - even with the financial contributions we aren't covering all our costs - E.G. AWS, Marketing - many areas still being subsidized by commercial partners.

MJ - If we had this information, it might lead to some uncomfortable questions

IW - tracking and publishing who is contributing to the project is a side show - we should focus on making the project/product more awesome

HK - whats the desired outcome here - MG - the question arises from the membership drive, and asking orgs to decide what level of commitment they want to sign up to.

HK -  We really need to make it clear that membership is not buying any kind of guarantee or warranty or benefit - it's an act of contribution not an exchange

MG - The question "What am I getting for my membership"

MJ - The ability of the PC to manifest the wishes of the community is directly related to the total membership fees.
