MARC validation

What: Allow tenant level configuration of MARC validation rules. This configuration includes the ability to configure rules for local fields, as well as set whether specific rules should present a warning before save or prevent save until error is resolved.

Positioning statement: A library may want to ensure that their staff is following both the MARC standard as well as local cataloging rules to ensure consistency and metadata quality, as well as improve discoverability. Feature(s): UXPROD-4549 | High level requirements

LCCN prevent duplicates

What: Add validation to quickMARC for both MARC bibliographic and authority records that checks for existing LCCNs.

Positioning statement:  The assignment of Library of Congress control numbers (LCCN) is a responsibility of the Library of Congress. These numbers are unique per record; validation needs to occur to ensure that the same LCCN does not exist in Inventory.

Feature(s): UXPROD-4537

Note: This is a feature that is enabled per tenant on the backend to support LOC. By default, this will be disabled.

LCCN structure validation

What: Add validation to quickMARC for both MARC bibliographic and authority records that checks for 010 $a structure validation

Positioning statement: The assignment of Library of Congress control numbers (LCCN) is a responsibility of the Library of Congress. These numbers are unique per record; validation needs to occur to support LOC’s LCCN structure requirements

Feature(s): UXPROD-4060

Note: This is a feature that is enabled per tenant on the backend to support LOC. By default, this will be disabled.

Browse by instance classification

What: New browse options in Inventory for all classification numbers, as well as the ability to limit browse to either Dewey Decimal classification or Library of Congress classification

Positioning statement: Previously, only item-level call numbers could be browsed within Inventory. Many libraries use call number browse to ensure data consistency, identify gaps in collections, and perform inventory management. However, the Library of Congress uses the bibliographic call number – known as the Instance Classification in FOLIO – to perform these same functions.

Feature(s):UXPROD-4693

Filtering and sorting by date

What: Ability to sort and filter Inventory search results by date, supported by:

  • Ability to capture two dates as well as a date type in the Instance schema

  • New column on Inventory results list to show the new date fields

  • Ability to sort new Date column

  • Ability to filter records by date range

Positioning statement: Dates, such as those related to publication, production, distribution, and archival collections, are important to help catalogers and Inventory users differentiate between titles.

Feature(s):UXPROD-4746

Diacritics and case insensitivity support

What: Make all search options case insensitive and Improve search and sort capabilities by making searches diacritic-agnostic

Positioning statement: Certain search options were sensitive to case, and this was changed so that searches are no longer case sensitive. Additionally, searching and sorting was inconsistent when using diacritics and this behaviour has been enhanced to better meet expectations. Both Inventory and MARC authority were enhanced by these changes.

Feature(s):UXPROD-4694

Subject granularity - browse

What: New fields, subject source and subject type, have been added to the Instance record to differentiate subject headings by these two properties. Users now have the ability to limit subject browse to both source and type.

Positioning statement: Libraries need to be able to differentiate between subject headings based on source and type for data management and more precise searches.

Feature(s):UXPROD-3965

Place of publication index

What: Create a new index for searching the publication place field on the instance record.

Positioning statement: The place of publication is important to help catalogers and Inventory users differentiate between titles and conduct more precise queries.
