Tools used in demonstration: MARCEdit - https://marcedit.reeset.net/downloads

This content was prepared by Lisa McColl and Hope Sagnip of Lehigh University. Lehigh migrated to the Goldenrod version of FOLIO on August 15, 2020, We hope these demonstrations are helpful in getting you started with using the data import app. Please feel free to email us with feedback, questions, or requests for more demonstrations:

ProcessVideo demonstrationQuick tips:
Prepare MARC file

  • Encode the MARC file as UTF8
  • Delete any 999 fields with the indicators 1 and 2 of "f" (these result from the data export app)
  • Be sure to include an 001 field in your MARC file
  • Validate your MARC file
  • Encoding check again
Build a profile to create a new instance, holding, and item record for a print book.

  • When a match is not needed, do not add a match profile to your job profile.
  • Every Field Mapping Profile must be attached to an Action Profile.
  • When creating the job profile the order in which you place the Action Profiles is important. When building an Instance, Holdings, and Item record with a job, that is the order in which the Actions must appear.
Build a profile to overlay an instance record for a print book

  • If you are having trouble setting up a profile to overlay, try a simple one like the one that is demonstrated in this video: matching the MARC 001 on the FOLIO Instance HRID

Import Order Records

While the ability to import orders has not yet been developed for FOLIO, Lehigh University has been successfully using a program written by Lehigh University Library's Sr. Analyst, Michelle Suranofsky. This program allows the staff to import MARC records and create orders in FOLIO. You can find the code for the program here: https://github.com/folio-labs/order-import-poc
