Oh - I think I know what that's about. It's similar to the situation with blank circ notes and such. If there's other values that are set as part of the field (like the $4 values being turned into full-text, or primary being assigned to a contributor, but there's no actual main data in the field (e.g. no $a in the 100), that can confuse the Instance. We've tried to make it so that the instance field doesn't attempt to create if the core data is not there. We may need to add that logic to the 1xx fields, and check other fields
