2 options for bibliographic utility

SkyRiver model

Libris model

Contact Theodor Tolstoy to ask if he can join our meeting to discuss how Libris operates.  How much staff, how do library coordinate?

CBS system in Germany.

This model does not use SRS, source of truth is Libris or CBS, FOLIO keeps a transformed version of the instance records.  Transformed records live in inventory module.  Version of the full record kept in inventory.  Discovery records come directly from CBS.

FOLIO/CBS integration is underway for Honeysuckle: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/16nxIZOdQStQPUtG8jsvJ-mnfgjCT4PTUUa-fEaATMik/edit#slide=id.g9038435e1c_0_22

CBS has central office staff at GBV Head Office, cataloging and metadata experts as well as technical experts (data coniversion and data import). Not creating cataloging records.  About 30 people.

One way, FOLIO only receives data from central system.

Why do we think we can do better than OCLC?

Cost of cataloging on OCLC too high

  • OCLC sunk costs into hardware, very expensive

Product council is working on a vision statement for FOLIO.  We should get involved with that.
