2024 Community Council Election

We are conducting the election for the FOLIO Community Council. We are seeking individuals who have experience with one or more of:

Leadership experience with non-profit organizations
Strong collaborative skills who are able to drive decisions that champion the interests of the community and project
Participating in and/or managing open community governance
Library management systems and library workflows
Planning software development projects
Agile software development methodologies, including Epic, Feature and Story creation
Knowledge of recent library operations and future needs
Experience with defining functional requirements and understanding of technical requirements

There are thus 7 seats open for 2-year terms starting July 2024. CC members currently serving a term that ends June 2024 may stand for re-election if they have not occupied a seat for 2 consecutive terms.

Nominations will be collected until May 30, 2024 via the nomination form here. Nominations have been extended to June 7, 2024.

Successful candidates will join the council on July 1, 2024

Stephen Pampell	Texas A&M University	I appreciate your consideration to allow me to serve on the Community Council. Several years ago, I served first on the Sysops SIG, then on the Technical Council and founded the Security Team before leaving the project for another position at the University. In February, I returned to the Texas A&M Libraries as the Director of IT. I believe my history with the project and Texas A&M's deep involvement and commitment to the success of FOLIO and the OLF qualifies me to provide perspective and shepherd the project via engagement with the FOLIO community.
Johanna Radding	Amherst College/Five Colleges	I look forward to deepening and expanding my involvement in and supporting the FOLIO community through the Community Council. As part of the Community Council I will bring my strong collaborative skills and professional experience working in and making decisions about FOLIO within a consortia. I'm the Electronic Resources & Discovery Librarian at Amherst College, part of the Five Colleges Library Consortium. I lead the ERM unit within the Amherst College Library coordinating our ERM and print serials workflows within FOLIO and managing our discovery layer working closely with our UX Librarian and Web Services Manager to ensure a holistic discovery environment across all our library systems. As a member (and former chair) of the Five Colleges Discovery Committee, I work in collaboration with colleagues across the Five Colleges for continual improvement in the integration of FOLIO and our discovery system. Additionally, I am the current chair of the Five Colleges ERM Committee and lead discussions to reach and maintain consensus on issues and decisions relating to the use of FOLIO, collaborate with other Five College FOLIO Committees on cross functional needs, and coordinate the UAT for FOLIO ERM Apps for each upgrade.
Joseph Grobelny	University of Colorado Boulder	Thank you for your consideration for your vote as a member of the Community Council. I have years of experience in academic libraries, and a broad understanding of the way our technical workflows connect to user experience. I also have worked as a project manager on several cross-department software systems and have a keen ear for developing stories, and mapping functional requirements to technical ones. Lastly, I host excellent parties and make a fine houseguest who will cook you breakfast :)
Rachael Kotarski	University of Chicago	With thanks for your consideration: I am the AUL responsible for ILS, among other services. In previous roles at National and University libraries, I participated in community governance for national and international research infrastructure. A key example being development of the PID policy for the European Open Science Cloud. I have worked with development and hosting partners for Open Source repository platforms, and been responsible for collection discovery strategy. My experience covers project elements including outlining RFIs and developing user stories. I look forward to bringing all this experience to the FOLIO Community Council, and for the opportunity to represent the needs of the FOLIO community.
Shawn Nicholson	Michigan State University	I am animated by the possibilities of the open-source community pulling together to achieve results and empowering libraries world-wide to order, receive, and invoice materials; efficiently track inventory; and generate, organize, and make available metadata in service to effective resource discovery. To the CC I hope to bring qualities that foster an enviroment where diverse ideas flourish. I value a collaborative and forward-thinking spirit that advances cross- council/community activities.
