This meeting we focused on printing. The main challenge we identified was distinguishing between true "printing what's on screen" functionality versus creating custom reports. We agreed that printing should focus on displaying existing screen content in a print-friendly format, rather than generating new reports or heavily customized outputs. We also discussed the need for consistency across FOLIO apps in terms of where print buttons appear and how they function.
Several specific use cases were examined, including printing user transaction histories for patron disputes, printing acquisition options for vendor meetings, and printing individual accordions or sections from records. We noted that some functionality might already exist through export options, but printing would still be valuable for immediate patron interactions at service desks.
Due to the complexity and variety of use cases, we decided that individual Special Interest Groups (SIGs) should review the printing requirements specific to their functional areas before we attempt to establish cross-application standards.
