Filip went through his concepts for the the Selection app.
Selection Sources
- It was suggested that the Open Syllabus Project (http://opensyllabusproject.org/) be used as a source for selection. The group agreed that Twitter is not a very commonly used source for collection development.
Selection Requests
- It would be nice to be able to transfer requests from Acquisitions to Interlibrary Loan (for items that cannot be purchased) or from ILL to Acq (for items that would be much cheaper to ILL or fit the collection policy/scope)
- It would be helpful to see a report of ILL requests in conjunction with a purchase request
- Can a list of items with high holds be generated? This could be used to help determine if additional copies need to be purchased or concurrent user limits be increased.
Ordering
- There was a conversation about ISBN should not be the only field used to generate a list of related items - it must be used in combination with other fields such as title. The point was made the ebook knowledgebases are not as finely tuned as journal knowledgebases.
- It was suggested that fund selection and over-encumbrance warnings should appear on the same screen as the item selection rather than separate screens to be more efficient. The user profile should be used to determine which funds the user has access to/can use.
- The system should be able to handle cases where the selection and ordering are done by the same person and cases where the selection is separate from ordering.
Other
- There needs to be a place in the system to store documents, such as quote spreadsheets or turnaway reports, that can help with the selection process.
