Reserves / Courses App

@Olga Kalachinskaya

At the Resource Access SIG meeting this Monday we talked about Course Reserves and lack of development in that area, so we are trying to assess interest in the Courses app.Is your library using the Courses app in Folio? Do you think that app needs some development?
If there are enough interested libraries, we will create a working group, collect the suggestions for the missing functionality and then hopefully share this information with the Product Council and lobby for its development. My personal hope is that the Courses app will be supported like any other app in Folio and the updates will be happening on the regular basis. Please mark your calendars if you are interested in attending the meeting.

Meeting Notes

@Olga Kalachinskaya introduced the topic. Goal of today's meeting is to discuss needs, strategize for advocating for development.

How to move forward to develop a bug/feature list and prioritize development. Should we develop a subgroup.

@Thomas Trutt did write up some tickets following a conversation at implementers meeting. Suggested that having a PO will be needed a little further down the road. It shouldn't prevent us from writing up tickets.

Institutions with interest: German libraries, Five Colleges, Emerson College, MA College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, MTSU, MSU, Wellesley, University of Canterbury

Will meet every other Thursday for sub-group. @Olga Kalachinskaya is willing to chair the group but would love a co-chair.

Begin by reviewing existing tickets. One central ticket can be linked under UXPROD-791, the umbrella ticket.

First meeting will be Thursday, January 23rd at 11:00am using the regular RA SIG. @Susan Kimball will add folks to the invite for the RA-Reserves subgroup (theo_wolf@emerson.edu and cunnin97@msu.edu).

Anyone interested should see the RA-Reserves Wiki page and subscribe to the ra-reserves Slack channel.

There are 3 modules:
Edge Course: https://folio-org.atlassian.net/jira/software/c/projects/EDGCOURSES/issues?jql=project%20%3D%20%22EDGCOURSES%22%20ORDER%20BY%20created%20DESC
Mod Courses (backend): https://folio-org.atlassian.net/jira/software/c/projects/MODCR/issues?jql=project%20%3D%20%22MODCR%22%20ORDER%20BY%20created%20DESC
UI Course (frontend): https://folio-org.atlassian.net/jira/software/c/projects/UICR/issues?jql=project%20%3D%20%22UICR%22%20ORDER%20BY%20created%20DESC

There is a “Courses” Label as well: https://folio-org.atlassian.net/issues/UXPROD-4869?jql=labels%20%3D%20courses

From Charlotte Whitt on the RA-Reserves channel pre-meeting: appoint 1-2 persons who volunteer for writing up jira tickets - kind of being the temporary PO or even the PO

And when writing up your bug and story tickets then I suggest to distinct your tickets between:
Short term changes: which might be smaller adjustments tickets to the current version on Course Reserves app.
Long term changes: which probably require the Course Reserve app to be re-factored. As you all know Courses was one of the very early developed apps, and FOLIO has moved on with rocket speed since that, and it's definitely time to get Course Reserve app to be updated (but that requires funding)
