General update

WOLFcon session on workflows has been submitted by the ERM team. Owen is working on the content of this session together with Jeremy Huff, who is the PO for the workflows app.

Development update

@Owen Stephens

  • Harvesting improvements

    • Improvements around performance on GOKb harvesting. The latest changes were shared with GBV and installed on their end. A full GOKb harvest took 17 hours in the GBV environment. In folio-snapshot (hosted envs) it took a bit longer, but it is now much faster than before. The dev team is at the end of a process that has been started in February 2024 re. things to improve around the harvesting of GOKb data.

    • There will be another release for GBV to fix a small error that could occur. There will be a next meeting in a few weeks to review current status and if further fixes have to be made. Also want to look at the question how existing FOLIO systems can be as fast as new FOLIO systems.

    • A new system harvested from scratch using the new harvest system will be faster than an existing system being changed to the new harvest system.

    • The changes will be backported to Quesnelia in a CSP.

  • Performance with search in the Agreements app

    • Title search:

      • Identifiers is now no longer selected by default in order to speed up search.

      • Print and electronic versions of a title will display as two separate lines in the result list. In detail view, the print title will link to the electronic title. The material type has been added as new column in the result list. Each material type will have its own icon with different colors.

    • Options for acquiring e-resource

      • List is now displayed much faster.

    • Agreements > E-resources in an agreement

      • List is now displayed much faster.

    • The improvements will be included in a special GBV version of Agreements for Poppy and can be shared with other libraries and consortia as well, but it will not be part of Poppy or Quesnelia.

    • To further speed-up the user based search, the team is currently considering some options (e.g. harvest less data from GOKb, implement Open Search).

  • Question in chat: What is the status of the new push mechanism?

    • Has been put on hold while the team worked on other improvements listed above.

    • Will be not turned on and can be enabled for a tenant by setting an ENV_VAR.

    • It can not be considered to be fully tested, but ingesting some packages works.

    • The external service that does the push from GOKb to FOLIO is still outstanding and not yet available to the public. FOLIO can receive the data, though.

    • The work will be picked up later this summer and has to be prioritized over other work packages.

    • Bernd Oberknapp is interested in testing this new push service. Owen will send some information to Bernd.

Implementer topic: Show the e-resources with their tags in the accordion element „E-Resources in package“ on package level

@Owen Stephens

@Sabrina Bayer

Implementer topic ERM implementers

  • Question: Which e-books in a package are already cataloged? They assign tags to e-books that indicate if a title has been cataloged or not cataloged.

  • One can filter in the title search for titles with tags, but this will create a result list with all titles that have this tag. Can’t filter on specific package.

  • Owen thinks that adding the tag column to the list would not be a big deal, but we have to consider if this is really useful for large packages. Displaying the tag in the “e-resources covered …” list would be a good idea, too. One can export the list from there.

  • Where to filter for the package titles?

  • In the local KB seach a user can tag the title and the package title. How many people are using tags in one of the two places? Just one reply from the group.

  • Instead of using tags maybe we should go with other options like we have with the supplementary properties. The ERM team knows exactly how to filter using this approach.

  • Benjamin mentions that tags are not controlled vocabulary. They have a use case to mark e-resources by subject. GOKb has implemented DDC but it is not used in the local KB, yet. Don't know if there are plans to support this.

Chat

There's something going around in Germany as well, just avoid the bad C word...
14:24:36 Von Bernd Oberknapp an Alle:
What is the status of the new push mechanism?
14:28:10 Von Bernd Oberknapp an Alle:
The current version of the external component is not yet available publicly?
14:32:33 Von Felix Hemme an Alle:
Bernd, maybe you want to reach out to Martina directly.
14:34:40 Von Sabrina Bayer an Alle:
A presentation would be great!

Sabrina, are you and your team interested in the titles that have not been cataloged yet?
14:44:56 Von Sabrina Bayer an Alle:
Replying to "Sabrina, are you and..."

yes, this is one of our use cases for tags

14:44:58 Von Felix Hemme an Alle:
If yes I'm wondering if instead of just presenting them in this list it would be better to make them retrieveable.

14:48:29 Von Bernd Oberknapp an Alle:
Maybe this could be done with the reporting app?
14:48:39 Von Linda Nolte an Alle:
couldn't you tag the Agreement lines instead of the titles in the local kB? Maybe filtering would than be easier?
14:56:01 Von Felix Hemme an Alle:
UB Leipzig is implementing custom fields in Inventory. Maybe this would be an option for the ERM apps as well. Then one could create a custom boolean field "cataloged" yes/no. Still the question about filtering...

i think it could be useful to see what's already cataloged
14:58:43 Von Heiko Schorde an Alle:
but i don't like tags too ;)

GOKb has implemented DDC but it is not used in the local KB, yet. Don't know if there are plans to support this.

@Owen Stephens will create different approaches to support Sabrina’s use case. Short (display the tags in the MCL) and also long (supplementary properties approach) term.
