Task 4.1 Add publication pattern with omissions

Some publications have a general pattern (e.g. daily publication) but omit some issues (e.g. not published on Christmas Day). To support this type of pattern it is possible to define omissions - that is rules for issues that are omitted from the publication schedule - in the publication pattern.

The steps in this task are detailed and so can be followed without necessarily a full understanding of the functionality. However, you may wish to consult the documentation to get a fuller understanding of the steps involved.

  1. Login to Snapshot or Snapshot-2 Folio with the username/password: acq-manager / acq-manager

  2. Navigate to the “Serials” application

  3. Create a New serial record with a description and status “Active” (you do not need to link a PO Line for this task, although if you would like to that is also not a problem)

  4. View the serial record and open the Publication pattern accordion and select Add publication pattern

  5. Setup a publication pattern as follows:

    1. Publication cycle of 1 issue every 1 day

      1. Cycle length / Time unit = Day

      2. Cycle length / Number of days = 1

      3. No. of issues published per cycle = 1

    2. Use the Add omission rule button to add an omission rule

      1. Time unit = Day

      2. Omission rule type = Day (1-31), Month (Jan-Dec)

      3. Day = 25

      4. Of Month = December

    3. Use the Add label button to add a label with

      1. Label style = Chronology

      2. Chronology format = Chronology Date

      3. Weekday format = Monday

      4. Month day format = 3rd

      5. Month format = Oct

      6. Year format = 2023

    4. Complete the template with the text {{chronology1.weekday}}, {{chronology1.monthDay}} {{chronology1.month}} {{chronology1.year}}

  6. Click “Preview”

  7. Choose an appropriate start date (this could be 1st of January but could be any date of your choosing) and click “Preview”

  8. The preview should show one years worth of issues starting on the date you specified. Each issue should be listed with a publication date and a display label in the form Monday, 1st Jan 2024. The issue that would be published on 25th December should be shown as Omitted (this line should be marked clearly in the list of predicted pieces)

There are many options for specifying omissions and you can specify multiple omission rules in a single publication pattern. Experiment with different options for specifying omissions for different publication frequencies.
