Kiwi pointing exerciseHolly MistlebauerHolly joined to give a quick reminder on the Feature Pointing Ballot:
- Voting institutions have until Friday, 8pm Eastern to cast their points.
- Please reach out if you're having issues editing the file - your email address may not be linked to a Google account, so you can only view.
- Next week we'll do a review and retrospective in this meeting - how did we feel about the process?

MARC in FOLIO updateKhalilah Gambrell

MM - High Level Marc Features List

Question - Is storage model helping us, or is it hindering us? Does this start driving a different type of storage

Answer - haven't been challenged by it. No teams saying they're blocked by model. Curious about thoughts on this, but will take this offline. Rely on the architects and developers to construct because it's out of the PO/SME's expertise.

Question about how Inventory and SRS are kept in sync

Answer - only instance fields kept in sync if it is a MARC field. When we get to MARC holdings, the interaction will be like the MARC bib and inventory instance, where MARC fields will be controlled by underlying MARC in SRS.

Question - on export can we map Inventory fields to MARC records, including holdings and items?

Answer - Yes. There are a few limitations that will included in Iris. Not all fields can be mapped right now. MARC Mappings Information

Question - Documentation on this?

Can't reuse HRID functionality from bib records, so will be developing that specially for holdings

Question - Can you edit MARC holdings in Juniper? Is there going to be a way to link

Answer - No, just getting records into SRS given short timeframe for Juniper. Boundwith case is a piece that will need to do when we can support boundwighs in Inventory. Charlotte - once MFHD is mapped, can work with you. UXPROD-1241 (back end) UXPROD-2855 (front end)

Question - protection of MARC fields in Iris?

Answer - Hotfix in Iris or in Juniper

Q - App for Authorities - will be part of Entity Management app in the long term -

A - It's just a MARC Authority app. Need to make sure requirements align with MARC Authority app and Entity Management app so there's no re-factoring. There is a feature for managing MARC Authorities in the Entity Management App. But Kalilah's group is working on a MARC Authority app.

Comment - if you're doing pointing and are wanting Kiwi features listed in slideshow - use your points for them!

Question - entity managment app -

Cataloging at CornellLaura Daniels

Go-live planned for July 1

Will not keep MFHD – mapping portions of MARC holdings notes that we deem critical for reporting to statistical codes (as well as keeping notes as text strings in FOLIO holdings records)

Intend to make judicious use of quickMARC, e.g., try not to make it required for routine copy/original cataloging workflows

Will keep as much as possible that is not actually part of the bibliographic description (such as statistics) out of MARC

Until UXPROD-2867 (Administrative note) is implemented, we plan to record cataloging and related statistics in a locally defined holding note – example:

-We believe we'll be able to populate this string with a macro

-space delimited name/value pairs allow for relatively easy parsing by humans and reporting

-plan is to move from Holdings to Instance once the Administrative note element is available

Mapping other local MARC data to Instance elements – e.g., 899 code we use for local collections will be mapped to an Instance identifier we are calling "Collection ID"

The occasional MARC record we need created locally (such as sample honors theses that we do not share with WorldCat) will be created in quickMARC, likely using a template bib record

Future topics

Receiving workflow demos deferred.

What can and can't be done with MARC records right now?  There's some imprecise language in conversations.  Will look into inviting Laura Daniels,  Khalilah - April 27

Holly will attend on Apr 13, 20 & 27 to address questions related to pointing exercise with a retrospective early May

Early May - AMB will give a data import update
