Preconditions

materials for reading room/in house use are defined by loan type and location

  • rare collections can be requested to the rare collections service point and used supervised

  • regular reading room/in house material can be requested to the reading room service point and used within the building

  • items are stored at the service point for the whole loan period and are handed out to patrons on request during service point opening hours

Workflow in current system

  • special loan status for in house use is tied to “reading room only” loan type

  • items are requested to the respective service point, checked out to the patron and stored on a shelf

  • handling through printed pick/hold slips: request slip stays at the service point and indicates that item is out with patron

  • item is on patron’s account, in house use loan status signals that item is on reading room shelf

  • in house use loan status prevents self check in/check out

Planned workaround in Folio

  • request policy allows items to be requested to the respective service points

  • items are stored on a shelf and checked out to the patron with “reading room” loan policy

  • handling through printed pick/holdlips: request slip stays at the service point and indicates that item is out with patron

  • item is on patron’s account, patron info on loan signals that item is on reading room shelf

  • issues: self check in/check out is not prevented, careful handling of paper slips necessary

Future requirements

  • possibility of “temporary check out” to patron and “check in back to reading room shelf”

  • overview of what is out with patrons and what is on reading room shelf without having to rely on paper slips

  • accurate information on patron’s account without having to enter a patron loan info

  • SIP2 considerations: self check in/check out needs to be prevented

 

 

  • Current requests functionality would cover this:

    • Circualtion rules - restrict by patron / material type / etc

    • Restrict by service point

 

 

  • How is the item shown on the patron’s account?

    • On hold for them, or checked out.
