Quarterly Community Update (Q4 2021)

Tentative plans for the next quarterly community update to be held on

We should start thinking about the TC update... What have we accomplished, what are our goals for Q1 2022?  Longer term goals worth mentioning?

Also, any ideas for a "main topic"?  For reference, the main topic of the last update was:

  • How dev resources (devs/POs) were leaving the project without being replaced.  The net result being orphaned modules.  Teams like Prokopovych were forced to bear the extra burden and pick up the slack.

Accomplishments (Q4 2021)

  1. Technical evaluation process for new modules - TCR board, JIRA workflow, wiki presence, github repo and templates, etc.
  2. Reviewed a couple modules for inclusion into Kiwi
  3. Revisited and revised goals and objectives

Ideas

  1. LTS Support - This idea has been discussed amongst the chairs of the 3 councils.  Depends on progress being made toward defining policies around LTS/versioning.
  2. Something security related?
    1. The Log4J vulnerability was a significant event for FOLIO, impacting just about everyone involved - developers, sysOps, POs, etc.
  3. Something related to the acceptance of new modules into FOLIO?
    1. This has been a hot topic over the last quarter.  Some progress has been made toward defining official processes and policies, but the project as a whole isn't quite there yet.
