Kyle B: broad pattern of legacy systems doing better with physical resources than electronic.  differences between inventory control system and electronic access management, and lingering workflows.

Shifting view from Open source meaning 'DIY' to meaning better access and voice.

Kyle :

"Open source provides libraries with influence they would otherwise not have. The community matters. Even if an individual vendor is large., the community drives the development and others can and do develop solutions to meet needs that go beyond what a single entity would be able to serve"

Going back to FOLIO Forums: does this group still meet?  Better promoted than regular meetings.

Separate 'lecture' content from 'classwork' or 'workshop'; produce and consume videos asynchronously, discuss and collaborate in meetings/events.

Topic ideas:

  • 'Why FOLIO'?
  • New workflows / on going workflows
  • Differences between data migration and change management to FOLIO
  • Why the normal RFP process might not work for FOLIO

ERM is about where cataloging was right before copy cataloging took off.

Resources necessary to do FOLIO / Open Source seen as high, and FOLIO can be hard to get started with.  What can be done to reduce that initial burden and get more people in the community's door.

Kyle:

"Actual technical expertise for implementing open source can be less than for a proprietary system. As Ian mentions, there are good paths to start from zero and there are ways to participate for people of all levels"
