Announcements | Ann-Marie Breaux (Deactivated) - Data Import log now support updates for multiple holdings and items, and other refinements - UXPROD-4079. Planning an intro meeting at the Data Import Lab session (on Thursday, next week). An extended test is planned in the Foljiet Rancher environment. Will do test the following week. Laura E Daniels reminds about the need for one more volunteer to help write up the user documentation for Inventory, QuickMARC, Data Import, Data Export, and MARC Authority.
PC update | There was no regular agenda, but instead a working meeting together on Zoom, where the PC focused on WOLFCon planning and cooperative prep in that area.
Discuss browsing instances by title functionality | Christine Schultz-Richert | - UXPROD-3671Getting issue details... STATUS Requirements for browsing instances by titles, incl. uniform titles, and name-titles (collected works, e.g. musical scores): Laura mentioned that the expectation would be left anchored and begins with, and then as for other browse functionality that the result is listed with 5/6 result previous result in the top and then the highlighted result. The title browse should include everything in the Title (All) index - so this include instance Resource title, Series title, Index titel, Alternative title (including Uniform title). Laura E Daniels pointed out that at WOLFcon there will be a session, where we can discuss MARC mapping of 7XX fields, and also Analytic titles (730, 740). Christine Schultz-Richert asked if Titles (all) should not include Series titles? Here Laura E Daniels answered that Titles (All) should also include Series titles, and then have a specific browse option for Series titles. More usecase can be added to this wiki page: Browse Use Cases. Dead line for adding more usecases - 1 week from now. |
Saving records <and performing action> | Laura E Daniels Natascha Owens, and Felix Hemme has worked on a proposal for saving records in Inventory (instance, holdings, item) and quickMARC (bibs - but not MARC Holdings). For now MARC Authority was not considered in the proposal. Felix Hemme explained that right now in quickMARC there are multiple buttons: 'Save & keep editing', and 'Save & close'. Ideally the buttons should be configurable, but for now we need to get to a consensus. Collect feedback on https://docs.google.com/document/d/1mVJijipoWkZNjKzgM0RMBD07BwdoF5Wwy6xLX3rIAOc/edit?usp=sharing The proposed solution is inspired by Postman-like model (as illustrated below) with a single button for default that includes a drop-down menu option for sub options
If the proposal is doable in Inventory, quickMARC, then the working group will bring this back to the App Interaction SIG, and discuss with also the UX designers, and this behavior could be adopted by all apps having records which are editable. There was a discussion if use of 'cancel' - the X - in the upper corner in edit mode of instance, holdings, item was an option, but here there was some push back using this 'escape'.
Based on the conversation here Laura E Daniels has updated the proposal. Laura and Felix encouraged people to add comments in the document. Laura will add two polls on the #metadata-management to get feed back from FOLIO users of Inventory and quickMARC. Felix pointed out that we should have Keyboard short cuts for the misc. ways to save the records too. |

17:32:18 Von Ann-Marie Breaux an Felix Hemme(Direktnachricht):
Hi Felix - when we get started, I have a quick announcement about some User Acceptance testing
17:32:47 Von Felix Hemme an Alle:
Here our Agenda: https://wiki.folio.org/display/MM/2023-08-03+Metadata+Management+Meeting+notes
17:36:41 Von Christie Thomas (she/her) an Alle:
+1 lab session sounds like a good time for that.
17:37:58 Von Jennifer Eustis (she/they) an Alle:
I can post this on our data import lab session slack channel too.

17:50:57 Von Charlotte Whitt an Alle:
What is the ’name-titles’?
17:52:49 Von Furubotten, Lisa M an Alle:
7XX fields?
17:53:06 Von Colin V. (he/him) an Alle:
We were talking about which titles to use, and we talked about using Title (all) values, but now we are talking about pulling from the MARC. Does this complicate things?
17:54:24 Von Furubotten, Lisa M an Alle:
Sorry, I should have said related titles
17:55:28 Von Colin V. (he/him) an Alle:
I work with some music librarians who would love the possibility of getting at those 700$t's as part of a title search, so a more comprehensive mapping conversation is exciting.
17:57:00 Von Furubotten, Lisa M an Alle:
Analytic titles (730,740)
17:59:00 Von Ann-Marie Breaux an Alle:
Here's the default MARC-Instance mappings - most of the title stuff is toward the top of the page: https://wiki.folio.org/display/FOLIOtips/Default+MARC+Bibliographic-to-Inventory+Instance+Mappings
17:59:40 Von Furubotten, Lisa M an Alle:
So, now I'm having to rethink about what we think the purpose of the instance record is. Do we want every title included as though we were searching MARC records, or do we want the minimum that lets us retrieve a record for working on it?
18:00:30 Von scolglaz an Alle:
800 & 830 can be really important
18:00:45 Von Ann-Marie Breaux an Alle:
Yes, Lisa - exactly - there are 2 schools of thought - surface "enough" of the MARC info in the instance vs surface "as much as possible" of the MARC info in the Instance.
18:00:47 Von scolglaz an Alle:
For grouping and finding all one's Analyzed titles
18:01:28 Von Laura (she/they) an Alle:
I think alternative titles are important for retrieval/identification but all the specific types are not

18:02:40 Von Colin V. (he/him) an Alle:
+1 to what Laura just said. We also have additional series browse use cases.
18:02:44 Von scolglaz an Alle:
Having a separate Series TItle browse would be super helpful
18:02:50 Von Furubotten, Lisa M an Alle:
I want a separate series title: sometimes I want to retrieve all members of a series
18:03:01 Von Ann-Marie Breaux an Alle:
Other related titles (730, 760, 762, 765, 767, 770, 772, 773, 774, 775, 776, 777, 786, 787) are not currently mapped into the instance (by default)

18:03:13 Von Iwona Wiśniewska an Alle:

18:05:16 Von Colin V. (he/him) an Alle:
Thank you Christine, this work is exciting!
18:13:09 Von Furubotten, Lisa M an Alle:
Why is not 'save and keep editing' the default? and return to view the drop down option?
18:13:45 Von Furubotten, Lisa M an Alle:
That is, you are making me drop down and click when I want to save my work and then continue editing
18:15:11 Von Christine Schultz-Richert (EBSCO) an Alle:
I have to drop, but wanted to thank you again for your time and feedback!

18:17:28 Von Natascha Owens (UChicago) an Alle:
I think the option you want to choose depends on individual workflows (so, not everyone will want to save and keep editing, right?). In an ideal world we could choose our own "default".
18:19:06 Von Furubotten, Lisa M an Alle:
I'm just going by the logic that 'save' is just 'save' -- if you want to do something else then that's a drop down?
18:20:19 Von Natascha Owens (UChicago) an Alle:
I do think Lisa has a good point about the wording
18:21:39 Von Lynne Fors an Alle:
I like the idea that save means save and keep editing.
18:21:50 Von Ann-Marie Breaux an Alle:
Does it change depending on whether the record is full screen or 3rd pane only?
18:24:18 Von Furubotten, Lisa M an Alle:
Ok, so how about 'save' as a 'save' button, and then another button 'close'?
18:26:54 Von Lynne Fors an Alle:
I had another system use a "save and release" record keyboard shortcut = ctrl + alt +R and kicked you back to the main record view
18:33:51 Von Furubotten, Lisa M an Alle:
I'll abstain (joking) because probably 1/2 the time (jobs) it will be more convenient for one default and the other 1/2 time the other would be better.
