Holdings StatementsDefinition

Examples MARC

Examples 'non-standard'Examples 'non-MARC'Comments
Z39.71Record of the location(s) of a specific bibliographic item and related general information (as listed in section 3.2) and, optionally, the units of that bibliographic item held at a location. Note: For the purposes of this standard, a holdings statement reflects only items actually held now, not items no longer held nor items expected to be acquired. The holdings statement can be open-ended.---
DukeThere's not direct 'holdings statement' in Marc, but the 866 does serve as a summary statement.

TAMU

uChicagoWe use an element, Extent of Ownership to collect these statements. The Extent of Ownership can be one of three types: Basic Bibliographic Unit, Supplementary Material, or Indexes. Each statement can also be public or non-public and can have its own note. The content itself is free text.

Christie Thomas - In the UX examples we used American Journal of Medicine. How would the holdings data look in the Kuali-OLE system?

EnumerationDefinition

Examples MARC

Examples 'non-standard'Examples 'non-MARC'Comments
Z39.71Data element in the Extent of Holdings Area that indicates the sequential numeric and/or alphabetic designation used by a publisher on a multipart or serial unit to identify the individual bibliographic or physical parts and to show the relationship of each part to the bibliographic unit as a whole. ---
DukeMarc Holdings don't split the enumeration and chronology into separate fields, only separate subfields as defined in the 853. Each separate entry on the holding has its own 863, with the 866 used as a summary field (see above for that example)

TAMU

uChicagoWe have both an enumeration and a chronology element at the item level. In most cases, we include both the enumeration and the chronology in the enumeration field. There are some instances in which we use the separate chronology element.

ChronologyDefinition

Examples MARC

Examples 'non-standard'Examples 'non-MARC'Comments
Z39.71Data element in the Extent of Holdings Area that indicates the date(s) used by the publisher on a serial unit or multipart unit to help identify it and/or indicate when it was issued. Note: The chronology may reflect the date of coverage, publication, copyright, or printing.
