WeCat demo live | | Demo of a specific WeCat feature: the Headings management in WeCat by Tiziana Possemato Three ways to manage headings (add, edit, delete) - Working directly on index.
- Search relevant index. Example given: name search
- If heading is present in index, it shows in second position, so previous and successive headings show.
- If heading is not present, one can be added right then, by creating a new heading.
- This heading is then present in the index, but it is not yet present in the authority file, but an authority record can be created from this starting point.
- This heading is saved in the relational database. It is stored in the Name Heading table (NME_HDG)
- Each heading is identified with a unique identifier.
- From the index, a heading can be copied to create a new one.
- Working on the cataloging worksheet.
- An existing heading can be used from here, or a new one can be created.
- To see if a heading already exists in the index, a search is done.
- When heading is found, additional details like a relater term can be added, along with the MARC coding.
- A title heading can be created from here as well. The appropriate subfields will appear as options to add details to a title heading.
- A row is added in the Name Access Point table. (NME_ACS_PNT). The bib item number is included in this table.
- Working on the authority worksheet.
- From the index again, a full authority record for the example name can be created.
- A cross-reference can be created. Several types of cross-references can be created. See, See Also, See Also From, Seen From are options. Example given: Variant form of the same name.
- From the index, an authority record can be created. The information already in MARCcat can be seen in the brief authority that appears, based on existing information, such as cross-references.
There is a possibility to created a Name/Title heading. There is a Name/Title index. Name headings can be related to title headings, to appear in the Name/Title heading index. |
Q&A | All | - Question: Does VIAF create heading or authority records, or both?
Answer: Loading from VIAF, new heading and authority record are created. - Question: Files of authority records loaded from OCLC - how are bib records updated after an authority load?
Answer: When you load a file you can define matching criteria so the incoming headings relate to the bibliographic records. The system allows the user to define the outcome - desired behavior of matches.

URI Management Task |
| - Each heading can be linked to a URI coming from different sources. Source options include: FAST, ISNI, NAF, VIAF, but can be added to.
- A heading can be searched for in one of these outside indexes, found, verified, validated, then added to the internal authority record.
- Multiple URIs can be applied to the same authority record.
- Demonstration of some of the tables.
- The Index table links the authority tables and bibliographic tables.
- AUT (authority table) :
- "CDE" tables have codes. (Example: AUT_RMNZT_SCHM_CDE) The meaning of record type codes, for example, can be found in the can be found in the T_AUT_REC_TYP table.

Planning | | Planning of the work - next meeting: Tiziana will send an invitation for recurring meeting. The next meeting will probably be next Monday.
- discussion about presented features and UI.
|
Action items
- Tiziana Possemato/Annalisa Di Sabato: send out the first document showing the next feature will be discussed (Headings management additional functions in WeCat).
- @Cult will make available a WeCat test installation to make possible some concrete tests. We ask to receive specific IPs to connect to this test installation (for security scope - to configure the firewall). Charlotte Whitt
- Post question on the wikis.
