The purpose of this feature is to create a modified workflow that enables patrons to use certain items within the library. These items are typically stored in closed stacks or are restricted in the Integrated Library System (ILS). Patrons can request these items, which are then delivered to a designated staff area for in-house use.
Functionality is not tied to reading rooms; it is separate functionality, it is about circulation in reading rooms
it is an extension of the current Requests app
There will be changes in settings UI (please see slides)
New tokens will be added
New request status will be added “Open - checked out to patron”
there will be 2 new filters in Requests app
in Check-in app a drop-down will be added which sets the check-in function

comment in chat by Brooks: I really wish I could have been in the meeting where this was discussed with RA SIG 🙁. I feel like there is an alternative approach that would dovetail very nicely with an “alternative loans” workflow. I’ve seen some items with a LOT of notes
Brooks and Thomas will discuss this after the PC meeting
Charlotte in chat: The feature you talk about Brooks is that: UXPROD-4398. Not scheduled, and XXL < 30 Days work? > yes
Jeremy: are there other than reading room that would fit the same pattern?
Brooks: had the same in mind; we could utilize the loan process to fulfill the requirement; the presented functionality would be a separate workflow and that could be avoided
Thomas: with the proposed functionality workflows are simplified because existing workflows do not need to change; statistics work differently (better) with proposed functionality
Andreas: presented workflow tries to grant flexibility and a lot of use
Alexis: we need to decide how we name the functionality to avoid potential for confusion
Thomas will go back to the working group and discuss options
Name of reading room access app should be changed as well out of the same reasons (e.g. room access)
Brooks in chat: I really think this should be more tightly integrated into the existing circulation apps
Rather than a standalone UI experience
Andreas: The idea is to use the existing circle apps. Check-out, requests and check-in. But perhaps you mean something else?
Thomas: Im not sure what you mean brooks.. It is using the current ui, just extending them.
Brooks: Ok. I thought you were proposing a new app
Thomas: Oh no.. the opposite.. extending the current apps only. Sorry about that..
All of the work would be in mod-circulation and ui-checkin/ui-checkout as well as requests app and ui-requests
There are many use cases that would be solved by this new functionality
Jana: I would be very interested in Hearing the other use cases of libraries - still learning About the different libraries in the world :)
Anja: Could also work well for all kinds of equipment that should be available for a specific patron for a longer period of time, but Needs to returned to a Service desk in the evening.
