Reference Data (behavior during upgrades) | VBar | Topic: Tech Council Recommendation relating to local customization of reference data. Vince clarified that he is not currently a voting member of Tech Council. Document: https://wikifolio-org.folioatlassian.orgnet/wiki/x/f5LhAwwxdN Source of the problem: "We have 1 bucket that we are trying to put two different things into it" (update and operational data). Proposal is to separate these things out into two different "buckets". This would allow the upgrade process to be separated into 2 phases: platform upgrade and | Reference Data (behavior during upgrades) | VBar and upgrading customizations generally driven by Subject Matter Expert changes. Charlotte expressed concern about updated customizable values. Ann-Marie - Default maps. MARC to Instance mapping - small changes made to the default map with each release. Libraries have local customizations as well. Default map also for incoming FOLIO data from Gobi . Are those considered the kind of data you are talking about?" Vince: Could be. How are the default maps are being used. Is it just template, a starting point, then that is one thing. If there is a dependency, that is a separate considerations. This process would apply in either case. Implicit is there will be data modeling changes on the backend. This does not change the design of what the data model looks like. There are two representations of the data model. How is this done? Laura: The only things that would require any attention is where something has changed that interferes with the update. Ann-Marie: If this is approved, is there a timeline? Vince: This comes down to the capacity planning team and their priorities Charlotte is concerned that we are now making more manual work. Vince: There is a mechanism in place to will alert libraries to where manual updates will be needed. Christie Thomas: "Will the manual review need to happen every upgrade or will FOLIO remember choices in future upgrades? That could make the review process more sustainable over time." |
