The Codex Search has compared to the Inventory a more simplified, generalized metadata  model, which can be be implemented by many kinds of source -- that it doesn't know about.

You should think of the Codex Search per se as dealing with records that are more like records in the Dublin Core format, than the complete and exhaustive MARC format. When you want to do detailed Inventory searching, the Inventory app is the way to go. And if you want to do detailed searching in the knowledge base, then the eHoldings app will provide more advanced search functionality.

LocalKnowledge base

The Coodex Search is the UI for searching both print and e-resources (local and KB).

In The Codex Search app you see the three pane layout as in other apps e.g. Inventory,

You can select source

  • Local (=Inventory app)
  • KB (=eHoldings app)

The idea with the Search and filter pane:

  • The consistency across apps
  • The consistency of having the same structure in the filter pane between apps makes it predictable for the end users how to input a search string in any app.
  • The Reset All button in Codex Search (as in Inventory) resets all search and filter changes.
  • The reset icon next to the “Search accordion” resets not only the search field, but also the dropdown that is connected to the search field.
  • The clear button inside the search field is a general pattern for input fields that allows touch screen users to easily clear the whole field with a tap. These three buttons do different things and are all necessary. In the apps that only have the search field inside the accordion, the consistency of being able to “reset” a section in the pane is still important.

Search options

In Codex Search we have a single search box in the 1st pane (Search and filter)

The Search box is intended to provide search options based on (Work in progress)

  • Search across sources
  • Search only in Inventory (local)
  • Search only in eHoldings (knowledge base, EBSCO KB)
