This page reflects the work of the original FOLIO Entity Management Working Group, which ran from 2019-2021. For current Entity Management Working Group efforts, see: Entity Management Working Group

Charge

Under the direction of the MM-SIG, the Entity Management Working Group (EMWG) will develop a vision for entity management in the FOLIO environment. While this group will consider linked data approaches under development in the library community at-large, the EMWG will not confine its consideration to any technical solution. That said, this group will consider what gaps currently exist in FOLIO to manage entity-focused data models, such as BIBFRAME. Further, the EMWG will not confine its work to authorities and entities traditionally managed in ILS environments; this may include agents, subjects and works. This effort follows from MM-SIG discussions held during the June 2019 FOLIO In-Person meeting in Crystal City, Virginia.

Outputs

The EMWG produced:

  1. A Vision Statement for managing entities across the FOLIO environment
  2. A gap analysis concerning FOLIO's functional requirements for handling entity-focused data models (included as part of Vision Statement)
  3. Use cases that would define projects

Previously anticipated outputs identified as out-of-scope; both were identified as best done following the assignment of resources for building the Entities App.

  1. List of reporting needs to present to Metadata Management and Reporting SIGs
  2. A list of short-to-medium term projects that provide needed functionality or a service and that can act as a proof of concept or test bed
