Tiers

Resource sharing between libraries takes many different forms. The following "tiers" of resource sharing distinguish the various types of resource sharing.

Single-tenant UnmediatedA resource sharing arrangement within a consortium where each library is set up like a branch library within a single FOLIO tenant. Terminology

TermDefinition
MediatedA type of circulation activity that requires the patron's library to facilitate the transaction with the owning library on behalf of the patron.
UnmediatedA type of circulation activity that allows a patron to interact directly with the owning library in order to request, recall, borrow, renew, and return.
Owning LibraryThe library that owns the item that is being requested/borrowed.
Patron LibraryThe library with which the patron placing the request is affiliated.
Pickup LibraryThe library where the item is to be picked up.
