  1. Text field enrichment - julie.bickle will talk about best practices in Patron notices

Minutes

Use cases for text field enrichment

  • There were many requests for text field enrichment in the FOLIO community
  • although not all text fields need it - opt-in / opt-out seems the way to go

...

  • Patron Notices: there is the need to send notices out
  • expectation: be able to edit - like in an e-mail
  • Charlotte in chat: We are also sending out printing notices on reminder fees :-) (hebis and Index Data)
  • In FOLIO settings: user can define a patron notice template
    • name
    • active: y/n
    • description
    • category
    • Email
      • subject
      • body - here the text field can be enriched
    • text can be populated in patron notices via tokens
    • there is a preview option
    • coloured text or highlighted text can be copied in from e.g. word
    • the fancier you get the more there may be difficulties with export - the simpler - the better
    • tokens need to know to pull in data from where
  • goals:
    • formatiing options
    • populate tokens
  • best practice: keep as simple as possible
  • Maura: my instinct is to look for places where things can go wrong
    • if user puts in links to external sources - those can be out of date after a time
  • Julie: this is a template - not as in ERM where there is the need to edit individual fields
  • Martina S.: the current use cases in ERM are rather for individual fields
  • Owen in chat: The use cases in ERM are more like the current use in the Notes app
  • Maybe supporting Markdown might be an option
  • Owen in chat: This box in the notice template is essentially storing HTML
    • With additional processing of the tokens (which is where mustache kicks in I believe)
  • export requests are very important here
  • Martina S.: users already raised different exporting wihes, e.g. financial systems from ACQ apps
  • Owen in chat: Pretty much all email clients support email in html now (unless you explicitly turn it off for security reasons etc.)
  • Owen in chat: Although I don’t know what would happen here if you printed out the notice which depended on a link - perhaps just print the link text and not the URL?
  • Julie: test in the template - wehre it works - Julie will do further testing after the meeting
  • Maura in chat: I could see that being more secure, but if the link text says “Please visit this link” then the patron might be a little frustrated…
  • Owen in chat: I agree @Julie Bickle (LMU) - I’d be very surprised if the link doesn’t work in PDF
And then  you print it, the link is just rendered as text (which is normal)
  • Julie is happy to answer further questions any time
  • Khalilah cannot make this call, but is happy to answer any questions regarding the Notes helper app
  • Martina will provide a document where we can collect questions that Khalilah can answer answer: Questions related to text field enrichment in Notes app
