Product Council Update | Laura attended the Product Council meeting this morning. She was not able to give a summary of what we discussed last week. The group did talk about the Codex, so she was able to bring up some issues in this context. No decision was made as to whether or not there would be a working group form. First steps: Vince Bareau will meet with individual SIGs, beginning with this SIG. Laura will try to schedule that with Vince. Product Council talked about the Workflows App. If anyone is interested, see the minutes from the Workflow Proof of Concept report. Dracine proposed the idea of a "Codex Retreat" in addition to a visit from Vince. MARCCat update | Tiziana Possemato | MARCCat update: (Tiziana) - Work is being done currently on the cataloging function, but also cataloging the search and browse function. Tiziana demonstrated a Name Browse search. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B4Y2tEYubbGGZDhPMERjbmVXZW8 | MARCCat update | Tiziana PossematoThe MM Group had a positive response to the demonstration. Charlotte could see that there are probably uses for the search functionality envisioned for MARCCat to be used in other areas of FOLIO. Question: When merging a corrected authority with associated bibs, will the relator term preserved? Tiziana thinks it can be coded to save terms that are not related to the access points, but are related to the bibliographic record. However, this has not been discussed. ANSWER (by Tiziana): I checked the function and it works so: when you move a record (or more that one) from an heading (not preferred) to another (preferred/authority) only the 'heading (access point) is affected by this changing, not the subfields (such as $e) not belonging to the heading. |
Instance/MARC mapping | status next steps Status A small group has been working on the MARC-Instance mapping and Instance-MARC mapping. They are trying to account for all of the MARC fields, but starting with the Instance record. The Instance to MARC (legacy) tabs shows the initial elements that were considered. The MARC to Instance tab shows the work done on this. Ann-Marie noted that this mapping is intended to serve as a starting point for each institution. Each institution will be able to establish their own mappings. In the Instance From MARC sheet, see Column D "UC Instance from MARC" to see the University of Chicago's customizations. Felix (via chat): "Are you going to include punctuation like a ";" between 490 $a and $v? In the current Inventory element the content in the series statement was displayed as "series A 10" | Chicago: Their loader normalized the punctuation in their test instance load. Lisa (via chat): "Backburner: Reminder that the PCC is discussing removing punctuation from MARC records. Do we really want it in the reocrds, or shouldn't that be in the display files?" Tiziana (via chat): "Interesting reflexion from Lisa: yes, the PCC is thinking to remove punctuation (in order to need linked open data requirements), so..." Tiziana brought up the idea of UniMARC, which is the prevalent form of MARC in European countries. Ann-Marie (via chat): "If we need to support UNIMARC as a source record format (stored and imported as UNIMARC instead of translated into MARC-21), we'll need to understand the priority of that versus other formats (e.g. BIBFRAME, CCO, EAD, etc). I imagine that priorities will depend on the formats in use by the early adopters, then the later adopters." Christie showed Chicago's most recently installation of FOLIO. Next Steps Christie will post screenshots and give a demo of their installation at another meeting. |
