Proposed redesign of the User Management module; possibly make Permissions Management module.Maura
  • Patty asked if UM-SIG should take on the User Permissions Management – New User Interface Proposal.
  • Bjorn said they have created a report
  • Maura noted that it would be easier to transfer tasks in UM to another if the UI was simpler.
  • 5 Colleges, TAMU, have a limited number of persons creating the permission sets and others assigning sets.
  • Cornell has 2 right now doing both and they are creating a security group to look at permission management.
  • Bjorn – they have 3 people doing permission management. Thinks this is a good proposal but from a local perspective this isn’t a high priority.
  • Patty thinks we should invite those people who create permission sets to a set of meetings to create use cases and get input.
  • Post in all SIG channels that the UM-SIG is going to work on the proposal and are asking for people who are actively working on permission management.
  • Maura suggested we set a target for working on it of February

Give feedback on UXPROD-3397. (Add accurate counts to patron group settings page and make counts in UI estimates)
Patty
  • The problem: User counts are unreliable if they are over 1,000.
  • This might have something to do with the count function in the Users Module Settings.
  • Is the count UI only?  It is just an API query.
  • One possible solution: Make the search asynchronous, which would not block the loading of the page.
    • Columns would fill in as they could - no "Loading" indicator until the whole query is finished.
    • "Lazy loading" - load a certain number of records, click a button to retrieve more records.
    • Elastic Search does this, but our use cases don't need the time/resource usage.
  • Fun activity: Try searching by Quick Note.
