I'm still trying to build a concrete understanding of the reference record in a bibliographic database. I'm trying to understand it through my own experiences but am not certain that those provide the correct model. I've worked in a system (and probably most systems work this way) where the authority-controlled fields in a bib record (BR) are linked to an authority record (AR) in a way that allows for updating a single AR and having the update reflect in all linked BRs.
