Overview: There is a desire to auto-generate the full location hierarchy code based on the component codes that have been manually entered. This will ensure that the location code that has been created will contain all the correct component codes and use a consistent formatting.

Some terms (we may need to wordsmith some of these - please let me know if you have suggestions):

• Component codes - Codes (manually entered) for each component value. Location hierarchy components are: Institution, Campus, Library and Location. Each institution, campus, library and location will have a code manually entered. NOTE: One might ask 'why not auto-generate the component codes'? The answer is we could (by taking the first 2 or 3 letters of the entered name). We'd need to leave the field editable, however, in case the first two or 3 letters of the entered name is not unique or not what they want for the code.

• Location hierarchy code - This is the auto-generated code for the entire hierarchy (institution, campus, library, location). It is auto-generated based on the component codes and according to the format specified in Settings > Organization > Location hierarchy code and display name configuration

• Location display name - This is the way the location displays in FOLIO anywhere a location displays. It can be configured in Settings > Tenant > Location hierarchy code and display name configuration
