Version 3: The difference from version 1 is that the 856 $u and $y was moved to the 952, and holdings/item data combined into 952 field

  • The 952 is the MARC tag with have holdings and item information.
    • $t is the Call number type
    • $p is the Call number prefix
    • $h is the Call number (we use either Online or we move the LC from the preferred 050 to here)
    • $l is the permanent location (codes)
    • $u is the Electronic access URI
    • $y is the Electronic access Link text
    • $a is the barcode
    • $b is the permanent loan type
    • $m is the material type

Possible job profile requirements

  • Match incoming 035 9\ to instance system control number
  • On match, do nothing
  • On no match
    • Create 1 SRS MARC
    • Create 1 instance
    • Create 5 holdings from 852 data
    • Create 5 associated items from 876 data
  • Then remove the 952s via MARC modification?

Orchid Bugfest Example (for 1 holdings and item)

When testing multiples

  • Sample file: Option3-multiple.mrc (attached)
    • Note 1: you will need to create locations, loan types, material types that match the data in the attached file OR will need to edit the MARC data to reflect default Snapshot data for 5 locations, 1 loan type, and 1 material type
    • Note 2: if the file has already been imported to the test environment, update the barcode numbers to be unique (952$a) or else item record creation will fail due to duplicate barcode number
  • Job profile: Copy from Orchid Bugfest

Question:

One record can have 1+ urls and hence multiple 856s. The largest I’ve had is a record with 10 856’s for a multiple volume set. This would mean that the MARC fields 852 below would repeat 5 times for each school and in each 856 the $u would repeat 10 times for each url. Would this not be a valid MARC file at that point?

Possible job profile requirements

(per Ann-Marie: I don't think we can construct a job like this)

  • What needs to happen:
  • 1 SRS MARC Bib is created
  • MARC modification occurs to add AC proxy and link language to 856
  • 1 holding created for AC
  • 1 item created for AC
  • MARC modification occurs to add HC proxy and link language to 856
  • 1 holding created for HC
  • 1 item created for HC
  • MARC modification occurs to add MH proxy and link language to 856
  • 1 holding creating for MH
  • 1 item created for MH
  • MARC modification occurs to add SC proxy and link language to 856
  • 1 holdings created for SC
  • 1 item created for SC
  • MARC Modificaiton occurs to add UM proxy and link language to 856
  • 1 holdings created for UM
  • 1 item created for UM
  • Final MARC modification to remove 856, 852, 876 fields
