Wolfcon 2024

We've scheduled a 50-minute working session for the BELA group. The session will be conducted in a hybrid format, meaning you don't have to travel to London to participate. Currently, Stanford and Wellesley have expressed interest in presenting their experiences with Bulk Edit and possibly Lists apps in their respective environments. Is there anyone else who would like to participate or present?

No need to commit to participate at this time. Planning will start in June, so if interested, please let Magda know soon.

Which release will we focus on? Participants can share their experiences with whichever release they use(d) for Bulk Edit/Lists.

Bulk edit - protecting MARC note fields

  • Overwrite the protection

  • Honor the protection

  • Let the user decide if the protection should be honored

  • Permission for letting the user overwrite the protection

    • Record level permissions only; currently unable to provide permission to overwrite protected fields.

    • Examples to consider:

      • Circulation needs to change a Location in an Item record, but should not be able to change the Instance.

      • Course reserves staff need to change locations, change Item records, etc. to process reserves at the end of a semester.

      • Some libraries would like to have a separate permission to bulk edit Source: FOLIO records to avoid major, accidental errors.

  • Errors/warning reports

Feedback/Questions about proposed Bulk Edit UI (See Google slides):

  • Looks good.

  • How does Bulk edit know which fields are protected?

    • Protections are provided through Data Import.

  • Ramsons will not provide the Override protected field column.

    • Bulk edit should HONOR protection rather than provide an option to OVERRIDE.

    • Protected fields will not change (unless overwritten); all other fields in the record WILL update.
