Review SIG Proposal
Next Steps:
Any additional steps for listed improvements?
EDS and VuFind Loan Type discussion - should we display to end users?
Display Loan Type (and what to call it?) Chicago uses "Loan Period".
How do different people use Loan Type?
Chalmers, named different item loan types, then used in circulation rules, Needs to make sense to end user. We also need to have the heading customizable.
CU Boulder, does not use loan type for circ rules, uses material type. Cannot currently display loan type
Villanova, uses location to determine what is loanable
Mt. Holyoke uses combination of location and material type for loans. Has the five college system, using js to control if request button shows or not in old EDS UI.
No core support for VuFind displaying Loan type, but Demian could reach out to see if we can make it available to customers
Libraries set loan rules via status, loan type, material type, and location. Status is hard coded, loan type, material type, and location are not. See the various ways libraries deal with "in library use only" or "reserves".
Setting the "isRequestable" flag
Displaying request button different then being able to place a request
FOLIO has no api that is able to handle the different circ settings to put “isRequestable”
FOLIO also has no setting/checkbox for (show recall/place a hold) in discovery. Would prefer this on the discovery side since some organizations have one FOLIO but this is fed to multiple different interfaces customized to a particular audience. Item level might make sense?
Mt. Holyoke also uses format (PT) in old UI EDS. Has also used 506 to filter exports for ebooks to EDS.
Also serials vs not (mode of issuance) is used for EDS RTAC.
Mt. Holyoke many of our instances are unspecified
Oakland is using location + status to make the button appear
LOC wants link resolver on every page, using mode of issuance to determine if serial or not. Would not work if data is not clean.
VuFind does not use mode of issuance to determine what values display in RTAC, EDS does
Need to also to think about “other methods of requesting” aka links to customized forms or link resolvers
Usually using the 856 42
Villanova specific form for remote items
Mt. Holyoke specific form for guest users requesting remote items
See always being a need to link patrons to these forms
After loan type what next?
mode of issuance
856 field/RDA/what is electronic and not
