Update June 2021
The Resource Management SIG as a full group has been suspended for three months June-September 2021). The previous subgroups have been updated to be full SIGs. Please see their pages on the wiki for the full This page will still explain their charge and structure.
About us
The Resource Management SIG works with developers to define essential functions for acquiring and managing all types of materials: fund structures, orders, receiving, payment, claims, licensing, access and authentication methods, maintenance, usage and other statistics, other possible evaluation tools, and reporting. The SIG will consider options to show relationships between resources, and mechanisms and workflows needed to support these functions. The SIG will also need to evaluate the potential for applications supporting selection, decision-making, and analysis with the aim of ensuring that current work does not limit future innovation. The Resource Management SIG advises developers on the coordination needed between its operations and other functions, such as metadata management. It also advises developers on the interactions needed between libraries, vendors, and other parties necessary for successful resource management.
Current Structure (March 2021)
Because the topical area covered by the RM SIG is so large, work is divided into separate groups. There are two main groups that are currently active:
Acquisitions Group
The Acquisitions Subgroup is charged with working with developers to develop, refine, and review the acquisitions functionality and user experience. Members, generally acquisitions specialists, commit to regular meeting attendance, and to work on projects and tasks outside of meeting times that contribute to the requirements definitions, refinement, user experience improvements and testing. Members are expected to stay current with pertinent topics in order to keep discussions moving forward. Meeting notes are available on the wiki.

ERM Group
The ERM Group is charged with working with developers to develop, refine, and review functionality needed to support the management of library electronic resources. This includes Agreements, Licenses, and eResources. Members, generally e-resource management specialists, commit to regular meeting attendance, and to work on projects and tasks outside of meeting times that contribute to the requirements definitions, refinement, user experience improvements and testing. There will also be regular meeting time devoted to implementation topics raised by the members. Members are expected to stay current with pertinent topics in order to keep discussions moving forward. Meeting notes are available on the wiki.

Role of the Resource Management SIG
The RM SIG will meet on a regular basis to further refine and discuss topics around acquiring and managing materials, FOLIO project level communications and considerations, and interactions of RM apps with other apps across FOLIO (e.g., data import). Work from the subgroups will be shared with the whole SIG, and may be further developed. For example, topics may be discussed in the subgroups that are specific pieces of functionality, whereas the fuller workflow will be discussed with the full RM SIG. Members should have knowledge in the resource management domain and commit to providing feedback and contributing to discussion within the SIG meetings. There will also be regular meeting time devoted to implementation topics raised by the members. There will be opportunities to engage in special subgroups, perform user acceptance and regression testing, and participate in the general working of the SIG.

What groups should I join?
As an open-source project, all FOLIO SIG meetings are open for interested individuals to attend. We recommend that individuals with the expertise, time, and interest in actively contributing to the development of resource management functionality join the appropriate group. Members on these groups will have regular homework and the opportunity to contribute to the development of functionality at a very granular level. Other individuals interested in a higher-level view, presentations on progress, and the chance to evaluate RM workflows should join the RM SIG meeting. All groups welcome open discussion, engaged participation and encourage a diversity of perspectives. As a collaborative community project, the more people that are engaged, the better the product will be and the more needs that will be able to be served. All members participating in these groups that are agreeing to abide by the FOLIO Code of Conduct in meetings.
